NEC Personal Computers has announced six consumer PCs and tablets as its 2026 summer LAVIE lineup. All of them go on sale on August 27 at open pricing. The centerpiece, the 16-inch LAVIE N16 laptop, pairs Copilot+ PC support on its higher-end configurations, built around AMD Ryzen AI 400 series chips with up to 50 TOPS of NPU performance, with a new design that lets owners replace or add the battery, memory and SSD themselves.
Designed to be kept, not replaced
The most striking part of this lineup is the self-maintenance design in the LAVIE N16. The battery is a consumable, so that much is expected, but memory and SSDs can also be swapped or added by the owner, safely and without special tools. Opening up a laptop is territory most manufacturers would rather customers stay out of, so treating it as a documented product feature is a notable move.
The context is straightforward: PC prices keep climbing. Once the assumption of replacing a machine every few years starts to break down, how long a single unit can serve becomes the deciding factor. If adding an SSD when storage runs short and swapping a worn battery are both officially supported, buyers no longer have to max out the configuration at purchase.
Durability gets similar attention. The chassis has passed testing to MIL-STD-810H, the keyboard uses a splash-resistant structure with a waterproof sheet underneath and drainage holes, and the key caps and printed legends are built to resist coming loose or wearing off. The long-life goal is supported from both the expandability side and the physical build side.
Copilot+ PC at the top, three retail configurations
Retail versions of the LAVIE N16 come in three configurations. The N1675/MAL uses an AMD Ryzen AI 7 445, the N1665/MA series an AMD Ryzen AI 5 430, and the N1655/MA series an AMD Ryzen 5 230. The two configurations with Ryzen AI 400 series chips qualify as Copilot+ PCs.
Every configuration ships with 16GB of DDR5 memory and leaves one slot free. Storage is a PCIe SSD, roughly 512GB on the top model and roughly 256GB on the other two, again with one empty slot. The configuration you buy is not the ceiling, which sums up the character of this machine.
The display is a 16.0-inch Super Shine View LED WUXGA IPS panel at 1920 by 1200 pixels and 400 cd of brightness. Its 16:10 aspect ratio shows more rows of a web page or an Excel sheet than the company's 15.6-inch 16:9 models. The machine weighs about 2.0kg and can be opened with one hand.
Ports include two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A, HDMI output, wired LAN, a microSD card slot and a DVD Super Multi drive. Keeping an optical drive and wired Ethernet is a very deliberate choice for a Japanese mainstream laptop. Wireless is Wi-Fi 7 on the N1675/MAL and N1665/MA series, and Wi-Fi 6E on the N1655/MA series. Colors are Prussian Blue, Clarice Silver and Clarice Gold, with Element Black available only on web-exclusive models.
LAVIE AI Plus lets you ask the PC about the PC
On the software side, the highlight is the upgraded LAVIE AI Plus. Pressing F12 opens a chat window that answers questions about the computer. What separates it from a general-purpose generative AI is that it reads the state of the machine in front of you along with LAVIE-specific manuals and support Q&A material, so answers are tied to the actual model.
This update adds help for people who struggle to put a problem into words. The AI offers several likely causes, and the user narrows things down simply by picking from the options presented. That addresses the particular dead end of PC troubleshooting, where you cannot search for a fix because you cannot describe what is happening.
Also included are LAVIE AI Plus Hint, which suggests around 40 tips based on how the machine is used, Microsoft Copilot through the dedicated Copilot key, and a long battery mode that adjusts screen brightness and background processing automatically.
Automatic backup that quietly writes to a second SSD
The new LAVIE Smart Backup runs continuously once configured. On systems with two internal SSDs it copies from the first to the second, and an external drive can be set as the destination instead. Restores can be done as a full image or file by file, and even onto a different PC.
Paired with the empty expansion slot mentioned earlier, the intent becomes clear: add an SSD to that slot and it becomes the backup target. For anyone uneasy about entrusting data to the cloud, that is a practical middle ground. Note that the feature requires storage separate from the system drive plus an initial setup step.
Desktops and Android tablets refreshed at the same time
The LAVIE A27 and LAVIE A23 are all-in-one desktops with 27-inch and 23.8-inch full HD IPS displays. Both use an Intel Core i5-1335U and include height and tilt adjustment, an HDMI input, a multi-pairing keyboard and a YAMAHA sound system. The HDMI input means a work laptop can be plugged in and the desktop used as an external display. The color is Fine Black.
LAVIE Direct N15 Slim, sold only through NEC Direct, packs a 15.3-inch 16:10 display into a driveless body weighing about 1.6kg and measuring about 18.9mm thick. Processor choices are the Intel Core 7 350, Core 5 315 and Core 3 304, with Wi-Fi 7 support. It comes in Cosmic Blue and Luna Gray.
The two tablets, LAVIE Tab T11N and LAVIE Tab T11, both run Android 16 on an 11-inch 2560 by 1600 panel with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300. Each measures 254.6 by 166.2 by 7.0mm and weighs about 485g. The T11N targets students with 8GB of memory, roughly 256GB of storage, a bundled Digital Pen B and the Nebo handwriting recognition app, while the T11 is an entry model with 4GB of memory, roughly 128GB of storage and a 90Hz refresh rate. Both support Tsunagaru! LAVIE for file transfers with a PC and use as a second display.
