Microsoft will hold a Windows and Surface event in San Francisco on October 7 (US time) at 10 a.m. Pacific, which is 2 a.m. on October 8 in Japan. The invitation says executives will discuss the latest work across Windows, NVIDIA RTX Spark, Surface and the wider PC ecosystem, with local AI as the central theme. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang are scheduled to appear together, making this the company's first major Windows presentation since May 2024.

Event overview

Three speakers are scheduled: Nadella, Pavan Davuluri, who leads Windows and devices, and Huang. Microsoft describes the session as a conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC. A livestream on YouTube is expected.

It is the first large Windows-focused event in more than two years, since May 2024, when Microsoft showed Arm-based Copilot+ PCs. Windows 11 itself was unveiled in June 2021, so this is the next milestone event for the platform.

RTX Spark at the center

NVIDIA introduced RTX Spark, a system-on-chip for Windows PCs, on May 31, 2026. It combines a Blackwell RTX GPU and a Grace CPU. The top configuration has 6,144 CUDA cores, 20 CPU cores and up to 128GB of unified memory, with AI performance of up to 1 petaflop at sparse FP4 precision.

At that level, large models of around 120 billion parameters are said to run locally without the cloud. Laptops as thin as 14mm are planned, and ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI, along with Acer and GIGABYTE, are preparing systems. Lenovo showed its Yoga Pro 9n at IFA 2026 in September, but has not announced a price or release date.

What to watch: Surface Laptop Ultra pricing and availability

On May 31, Microsoft also introduced the Surface Laptop Ultra, built around RTX Spark. The company calls it its most powerful Surface Laptop and says it was engineered together with NVIDIA. A 15-inch mini-LED display has been reported, but pricing and general availability have not been announced.

Microsoft has not confirmed that the laptop will appear at this event. The confirmed agenda covers local AI, Windows, RTX Spark, Surface and the PC ecosystem. A developer-focused Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is also rumored, but that remains speculation.

No Windows 12 expected

Microsoft has said Windows 11 26H2 will be the next annual update, delivered through an enablement package later this year. No announcement about Windows 12 or a new Windows version is expected.

Reports point to the continued replacement of Windows 95-era dialogs with WinUI 3, scheduler improvements to get the most from RTX Spark, and stronger Prism emulation for running x86 apps on Arm. None of these is confirmed for the event.

Summary

This is the first major Windows event in over two years, and NVIDIA's CEO sharing the stage is unusual. Three things to watch are the price and timing of RTX Spark PCs, how Microsoft handles the Surface Laptop Ultra, and the Windows features meant to run local AI. RTX Spark PCs are due this fall, so the announcements arriving in the early hours of October 8 in Japan should shape what comes next.
