Midea, a brand within the Smart Home Business of Midea Group, has unveiled SMART MASTER, a system that ties an entire household together under a single AI. It sits at the centre of the company's booth at IFA 2026, which opened in Berlin on September 5. Rather than lining up individually clever appliances, Midea places air conditioners, refrigerators and ovens under a shared AI agent so the home can be addressed as one entity.
The Voice Entry Point Moves Into the Appliances
The core of SMART MASTER is a conversational layer called the AI Agent. It supports 140 languages, picks up voice from up to 8 metres away, and responds in 0.4 seconds. Users do not need to repeat the wake word for every request, so instructions can be stacked in a continuous conversation.
The notable design choice is where the microphone lives. Instead of a dedicated smart speaker, voice entry points are built into the air conditioner, the refrigerator and the built-in oven, so a request can be made from wherever the user happens to be standing. The same agent is also reachable through the Midea app, in-car systems, smart speakers and phone voice assistants, which keeps a conversation going between the road and the house.
With a single hub device, the placement of that one unit determines how usable the system feels. Spreading entry points across appliances that already sit in different rooms is an attempt to cut down on missed requests as people move around.
Four Agents Split the Work
SMART MASTER divides responsibilities across four agents.
Efficiency Agent handles electricity. A whole-home dashboard shows consumption trends, solar contribution, energy costs and emissions avoided. When solar generation peaks, it runs the washing machine and the robot vacuum on that power; when generation drops, it shifts those tasks to hours with cheaper tariffs. Rising electricity prices and emissions pressure across Europe make this a reasonable feature to lead with in that market.
Comfort Agent prepares the home for arrival. As the car approaches, Welcome Home mode starts and the air conditioner, humidifier and washer-dryer pair begin working together. The air conditioner uses millimetre-wave radar to track where the occupant is and steers airflow accordingly, the humidifier keeps humidity balanced, and the laundry pair applies smart detergent dosing and sensor-based drying.
Health Agent covers meals. A voice request prompts the refrigerator to scan its contents, track freshness and suggest recipes, and the chosen recipe is passed on to the cooking appliances. The built-in oven uses a Smart AI Vision System to recognise ingredients and monitor food temperature during cooking, with voice control for starting and stopping, adjusting temperature and selecting functions. The induction hob and the hood respond together as conditions change, and a dual-zone air fryer finishes two dishes at once.
Showing a Fault Through a Photo or a Video Call
The fourth agent, Service Agent, is the help desk for appliance problems. When a coffee machine throws an error, showing it through a photo or a real-time video call returns illustrated guidance. Photographing a receipt after a grocery run identifies the ingredients, tracks freshness and updates the fridge inventory. Scanning a care label sets the appropriate washing programme.
Midea describes this as the industry's first AI assistant to support real-time video calls. It is aimed at cutting the time spent hunting through manuals, and it should matter most for faults that are hard to describe in words.
Robots Running on EAGLES Sit Inside the Same Framework
The SMART MASTER showcase also includes live demonstrations from Midea Robot. On the stand, one robot handles tableware and dish baskets, another prepares popcorn and hands it to visitors, and a bipedal robot greets the audience, waves and dances.
These run on a system architecture called EAGLES, powered by four multimodal foundation models. The intended applications cover laundry, kitchen work and cleaning, along with companionship and care services and whole-home control. Placing smart appliances and embodied robots inside one framework is what separates this from most rival smart home strategies.
What has been disclosed so far is mostly features and show-floor content. European availability, the range of compatible models and how much existing products will benefit have not been detailed. The booth is in Hall 5.1 at Messe Berlin.
Summary
Midea's SMART MASTER builds on an AI Agent with 140 languages, 8-metre pickup and 0.4-second responses, then splits energy, comfort, food and support across four agents to control the whole home. Embedding voice entry points in the air conditioner and refrigerator, and extending support as far as real-time video calls, are the practical highlights. Robots running on EAGLES are folded into the same concept, but timing and coverage still await further announcements.
