Meta and EssilorLuxottica have released Meta Glasses, their own-brand AI eyewear, in Japan. Pricing starts at 50,600 yen, more than 20,000 yen below the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta lines already on sale locally. Three frame styles combine with colors and lens types for 26 total configurations, and prescription lenses are supported. The glasses are sold through Meta.com and Meta authorized retailers.
The entry price drops by more than 20,000 yen
Meta entered the Japanese AI glasses market in earnest on May 21, when the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta lines arrived. Those sit between 73,700 yen and 96,580 yen, which is a lot to spend on something you are still deciding whether to wear every day.
Meta Glasses slots in below them as Meta's own-brand product. A configuration with standard tinted or clear lenses starts at 50,600 yen, lowering the entry point by roughly 23,000 yen. The product was announced in the United States in June at 299 USD (about 48,000 yen), so the Japanese price, which includes consumption tax, lands about where you would expect.
1 USD = 159 JPY (as of August 27, 2026)
The Meta Starfire Kylie Edition, a collaboration with Kylie Jenner, starts at 68,200 yen, closer to the entry point of the existing lines. Transitions lenses also fall into a higher price tier, and prescription lenses cost extra.
Three frames, 26 combinations
There are three frame styles: the conventional square Meta Adventurer, the bolder Meta Fury, and the slim oval Meta Glasses by Kylie.
Color options include Classic Black, Classic Tortoise, Racing Green, Linen, Merlot, Mahogany and Sandstone. The range runs from subdued eyewear tones to more assertive choices such as Merlot and Racing Green, so buyers who would rather not look like they are wearing a gadget have somewhere to go. Lenses come in sunglass, Transitions, polarized and clear versions, and the full matrix works out to 26 combinations.
Prescriptions from -12 to +2.25, and swapping lenses does not void the warranty
Prescription support matters for anyone who needs vision correction. Meta Glasses covers powers from -12 to +2.25, a range wide enough to include strong myopia, which puts the product within reach as an everyday pair.
The practical detail worth noting is that taking the glasses to an optician after purchase and swapping in prescription lenses does not void the warranty. A frame packed with electronics could easily have been treated as off limits once opened up. Allowing the swap says something about how Meta wants the category positioned: as eyewear first, device second.
The core hardware matches Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta. A button on the temple summons the Meta AI assistant, open-ear speakers leave the ears unblocked, and a multi-microphone array suppresses wind noise. The camera is 12 megapixels and records video at 3K.
Capture is hands free, but a capture LED on the front of the frame blinks white while recording, and it cannot be switched off. Given how uneasy a camera-equipped pair of glasses makes the people around you, the fact that it cannot be disabled is the point rather than a limitation.
Battery life is rated at more than 8 hours, and the bundled folding charging case adds up to 40 hours more. For fit, the frames use over-extension hinges, nose pads that adjust in three directions, and bendable temple tips.
The deciding factor is shifting from price to design
Japan's AI glasses shelf has filled up quickly over the past few months. Display-free designs built around a camera and an assistant have arrived from several vendors, and prices have come down to around 50,000 yen. Meta Glasses is Meta itself pushing that floor lower.
As the feature sets converge, though, the reason to pick one pair over another moves toward frame shape and color. Offering 26 combinations and putting a Kylie Jenner collaboration front and center fits that reality. Glasses sit on your face all day, so how they look tends to decide the purchase long before the spec sheet does.
Summary
Meta Glasses widens the entry to Meta's AI eyewear at 50,600 yen. The feature set is essentially the same as Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, and the practical touches carry over intact: prescription support from -12 to +2.25, battery life above 8 hours, and a capture LED that cannot be turned off. The biggest change this time is that buyers can now pick an everyday pair out of 26 combinations.
