Robosen, the maker of self-converting robots, has opened pre-orders for the Fallen Leader Optimus Prime G1 Flagship, a commemorative model marking 40 years of the animated Transformers movie. The officially licensed figure recreates Optimus Prime as he appeared immediately after his defeat in the 1986 film. Only 1,000 units are allocated to North America, with an early pre-order price of 999 USD (about 159,000 yen). Shipping is scheduled to begin in December 2026.

A Tribute Built Around a Fall, Not a Victory

Robosen's Flagship line has already covered the major characters, including Optimus Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee. What sets this release apart is that the subject is not a character but a single scene.

The moment Optimus Prime falls in The Transformers: The Movie (1986) remains one of the most remembered scenes for anyone who followed the series. Robosen has rendered that aftermath in a dedicated gray and black finish. The coating carries engineered scratches, burn marks and wear, so this is not a recolor of an existing figure but a model whose entire design premise is the state of the character after the final battle.

The 40th anniversary framing extends to the accessories. The Matrix of Leadership is included as a dedicated collectible, alongside a signature weapon, commemorative packaging and a limited collector's coin. Even the outer box is purpose-built around the fallen commander imagery.

Fully Automatic Conversion, Damage and All

The figure may look battered, but the mechanics remain flagship grade. Switching between robot and vehicle modes is fully automatic, with no need to pose joints by hand.

The drivetrain uses 28 servo motors, and the body houses 92 microchips along with a 6-axis IMU (an inertial measurement unit that detects tilt and motion). In a movement like conversion, where many joints have to move at once, the quality of the result depends less on motor count than on whether the system can sense its own posture and correct as it goes, which makes the IMU more significant than the spec sheet suggests.

Voice work comes from Peter Cullen, the original G1 voice of Optimus Prime. For this release he recorded new lines specific to the fallen leader rather than reusing the standard character dialogue.

Five Programming Modes and a Mini Theater

Control runs through a dedicated app, which handles mode switching, action sequences and real-time interaction.

There are five ways to program the robot: manual programming by physically posing the joints, block-based visual programming, PC programming through Robosen Studio, voice-activated programming, and a simplified mode for beginners. Custom actions and sound effects can be shared through Robosen Hub, and creations from other owners can be imported.

The other headline feature is the Mini Theater. Owners who also have Flagship Megatron or Flagship Bumblebee can synchronize the motion and dialogue of two robots to replay scenes from the film. It is a mode that only works with more than one unit, aimed squarely at collectors building out the line.

Specifications and Pricing

In robot mode the figure measures roughly 48.3 by 29.7 by 16.2 cm, and in vehicle mode roughly 35.7 by 20.7 by 16.9 cm. It weighs about 2.7 kg on its own and about 6.5 kg packaged. Materials include ABS resin, nylon fiber, aluminum alloy, zinc alloy, polycarbonate and POM.

Power comes from an internal 11.1V 1900mAh battery charged over USB Type-C. The bundled PD charger delivers up to 30W, with a charge time of about 90 minutes and about 60 minutes of continuous operation. The app connects over Bluetooth 4.2 LE. Dimensions match the standard Flagship Optimus Prime, so the two line up consistently on a shelf.

The regular price is 1,399 USD (about 223,000 yen), discounted by 400 USD to 999 USD during the pre-order window. Pre-orders opened on July 25, 2026 at 9:00 AM EDT and close on August 25, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT. North American supply is capped at 1,000 units, and payment is taken in full at checkout. Shipping is expected from December 2026, with Robosen saying it will announce any change to that timeline. The warranty runs one year, extendable by two more years if purchased within 30 days of delivery.

※1 USD = 159.54 JPY (closing rate on August 1, 2026)

The unit is sold primarily through Robosen's US online store, and no official distribution has been announced for Japan. Buyers outside North America will need to account for import arrangements and customs.
