Xiaomi is refreshing its best-selling series in India. The REDMI Note 17 5G will be unveiled on August 6, and a dedicated page is already live on the company's Indian website. The headline figures are an 8,000mAh battery and a name: mAhster Edition. The phone launched in China in July, and the Indian version looks set to be nearly identical.
Xiaomi is selling one number, and one number only
The teaser Xiaomi India has published places 8,000mAh across the full width of the frame, with two handsets standing in front of it. Not the camera, not the processor, but the battery is the subject. The taglines follow the same line, promising more than 3 days of use and telling buyers to charge less and live more. A footnote clarifies that the runtime figure comes from Xiaomi's own lab testing.
The mAhster Edition subtitle points in the same direction. It is a pun on mAh and master, and it makes the pitch obvious at a glance. India's mid-range segment usually turns into a numbers contest over megapixels and charging speed, but this time Xiaomi is betting on raw capacity alone.
The handsets in the teaser come in a pale blue-green and a lavender purple. A rounded square camera plate sits in the upper-left corner of the back, holding a circular lens and a flash. The plate is finished in the same family of colours as the rear panel, so there is none of the pronounced step seen through the Note 15 generation.
The internals look set to carry over from the Chinese model
Xiaomi has not published Indian specifications. Only the OLED panel and the 8,000mAh battery are officially confirmed. What follows comes from the Chinese model announced on July 14 and from benchmark database entries.
The Chinese Note 17 pairs a 7.0-inch OLED at 1080 x 2396 with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, and an 8,000mAh battery with 45W charging. The camera setup is deliberately spare: a single 50MP sensor on the back and an 8MP front camera. It carries an IP65 rating, an under-display fingerprint reader and NFC.
For the Indian unit, a benchmark listing shows the same Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 with 8GB of RAM running Android 16. Given Xiaomi's current practice, HyperOS 3 should sit on top. If the camera hardware also carries over, that means the same 50MP single rear camera and 8MP selfie shooter.
A 7.0-inch screen sits at the extreme end even among large-display phones. Combine it with an 8,000mAh cell and the weight and thickness will follow. This is not a device designed for one-handed use. It reads instead as a phone built around carrying it all day and leaving the charger behind.
The Pro model and what the price might be
Overseas outlets report that both the Note 17 and Note 17 Pro will appear on August 6. Xiaomi India's microsite, however, names only the Note 17 5G, and there has been no official word on a Pro version.
On pricing, leaks point to roughly 30,000 rupees (about 50,000 yen) for the 6GB + 128GB configuration and around 33,000 rupees (about 55,000 yen) for 8GB + 128GB. The Chinese versions started at 1,299 yuan (about 30,400 yen) for the Note 17 and 1,599 yuan (about 37,000 yen) for the Pro, which puts the projected Indian prices higher. That said, launch list prices in India often sit well above street prices, so the real figure only becomes clear once first-sale bank discounts are factored in.
※Exchange rates (as of August 2, 2026): 1 Indian rupee = 1.68 JPY, 1 Chinese yuan = 23.4 JPY
Sales will run through Amazon India, Xiaomi's own store and offline retail, with open sales expected from the middle of August.
Summary
The REDMI Note 17 5G will be announced in India on August 6 as the mAhster Edition, built around an 8,000mAh battery. Only the OLED panel, the battery capacity and the date are officially confirmed. The 7.0-inch display and Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 are inferred from the Chinese model and benchmark listings. Whether a Pro version shares the stage, and what the phone actually costs, will have to wait for the day itself.
