OPPO has launched the OPPO Bubble in China, a round display that magnetically attaches to the back of a smartphone. It packs a circular AMOLED touchscreen into a slim body just 7mm thick and about 27.5g, and when paired with a compatible OPPO phone it becomes a viewfinder for taking selfies with the rear main camera. It also doubles as a decorative accessory that shows your favorite wallpapers and videos, priced at 499 CNY (about 12,000 yen).

Turning the rear sub-display into an add-on accessory

Phones with a secondary display on the back have existed before, but they remain rare. What makes the OPPO Bubble different is that it is not built into the phone — it is a standalone accessory you attach afterward.

The body is a round gadget that fits in your palm, measuring 7mm thick and weighing about 27.5g. Stick the bundled magnetic ring onto the back of your phone or its case, and the OPPO Bubble snaps firmly into place with magnets. It mounts over the camera area and can be removed and carried separately whenever you need it.

A viewfinder for rear-camera selfies

The OPPO Bubble's main job is to assist with selfies taken using the phone's rear cameras. Attached to a compatible OPPO phone, it shows a live preview from the rear camera, letting you frame yourself while shooting with the higher-quality main camera or the ultra-wide and telephoto lenses.

It also supports remote shooting from a distance. According to OPPO, you can preview and shoot wirelessly from up to 10 meters away, switching between the main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras right from the accessory. A physical button lets you fire the shutter on the spot, and it supports delayed shots that let several people get into the frame. OPPO notes that the 10-meter figure is a measurement taken under ideal lab conditions, and the effective range may be shorter depending on nearby radio interference.

A display gadget made to be seen

When you are not shooting, it works as a display for showing images you like. It supports still images (JPEG and PNG) as well as 3-second live photos and short videos of 1 to 5 seconds (MP4), and can rotate through up to 20 items in sequence.

OPPO also offers cartoon-style mascots shaped like cats, rabbits, and dogs. The design assumes you might detach it from the phone and use it on its own — clipped to a bag or belt, or set on a desk. The screen itself is a vivid AMOLED touch panel.

Connectivity and supported models

No cable is needed to connect to an OPPO phone; bringing the unit close to the phone pairs it automatically. At launch, supported models are the OPPO Reno16, Reno15, and Reno14 series, plus the Find X8 and Find X9 series (including the Find X9 Pro and Find X9 Ultra), and the latest version of ColorOS is required.

The Bubble's magnet also lets it attach to Qi2-compatible smartphones, so it can stick to the back of devices like the Apple iPhone 17. However, the rear-camera selfie feature only works with a compatible OPPO phone, and an app for other manufacturers' phones is not planned for now. Used purely as a decorative display, it can be attached to the back of non-supported phones as well.

Battery and price

The built-in battery uses a single-cell design with a 550mAh (rated) capacity. OPPO's lab data indicates up to about 23.85 hours of continuous use when showing a wallpaper at medium brightness, and about 16.51 hours even at high brightness. When using it to fire the rear shutter every 10 seconds, the figure drops to about 9.46 hours at medium brightness. All of these are manufacturer measurements that vary with usage and conditions.

The price in China is 499 CNY (about 12,000 yen), with silver as the body color. OPPO has not yet announced availability or pricing outside China. *Converted at 1 CNY = 24 JPY (as of June 2026)

Summary

The OPPO Bubble is a magnetic round AMOLED accessory for the back of your phone — an idea that feels obvious in hindsight yet has not really existed until now. Paired with a compatible OPPO phone, it turns the higher-quality rear cameras into a selfie tool and handles wireless shooting from up to 10 meters away. It is also unique as a "display" gadget you can carry around showing wallpapers, videos, and mascots. Whether the rear-camera selfie experience is worth 499 CNY (about 12,000 yen), and whether you own a supported model, will likely be the deciding factors.
