POCO, the Xiaomi sub-brand, has announced that its new smartphone for the Indian market, the POCO M8 Power 5G, will be unveiled on August 4, 2026. Only two details are official so far: an 8,000mAh battery and an AMOLED panel. Battery life is clearly the headline feature, which sets this model apart from the rest of the M8 family.

The numbers explain what "Power" means here

Battery capacity is the first spec POCO chose to reveal. At 8,000mAh, the M8 Power carries nearly 2,500mAh more than the 5,520mAh cell inside the standard M8. A gap that wide between two phones sharing a name is unusual.

POCO says the capacity translates into up to three days of use on a single charge. Figures like this always rest on a manufacturer's assumed usage pattern, and network conditions or screen brightness will shift the outcome. Even so, it is enough capacity to break the habit of charging every night.

Large batteries normally cost you weight and thickness. How POCO packaged 8,000mAh into this chassis will remain an open question until the launch event puts real dimensions on the table.

AMOLED is confirmed, and that is where the details stop

For the display, POCO has stated only that it uses an AMOLED panel. Screen size, resolution, refresh rate and brightness are all still withheld.

LCD panels are common in this price bracket, so leading with AMOLED is itself a selling point. The tagline POCO attached to the phone also leans on video watching, which suggests the company wants the combination of a big battery and an AMOLED screen to position this as a device for long viewing sessions.

As for the exterior, official images show an orange finish with a lightly textured surface. It is the same colour used in the first teaser back in July, and it looks set to be the signature option.

The Redmi Note 17 connection is not confirmed

Speculation has built around the M8 Power being a variant of the Redmi Note 17. Along those lines, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, 45W wired charging and a 50MP main camera have all been mentioned.

None of it has been acknowledged by POCO. The company has committed to three things only: the launch date, the battery capacity and the AMOLED panel. The full spec sheet has to wait until August 4.

In India, phones built around large batteries hold real weight at the affordable end of the market. Entering that space with 8,000mAh makes sense as a design decision, favouring the battery and the screen over raw processing performance.

Sales run through Flipkart, India only for now

The launch event takes place at noon local time on August 4, and sales will run through the Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart. Pricing, availability and the remaining specifications should all be disclosed then.

POCO has said nothing about markets outside India. M series devices are frequently launched with different model numbers and specifications by region, so an identically named handset will not necessarily appear elsewhere.

Summary

The POCO M8 Power 5G is a new India-focused handset built around an 8,000mAh battery and an AMOLED display. Those two points and the August 4 date are all that is officially confirmed, with the processor, cameras and pricing still undisclosed. The full picture, including any link to the Redmi Note 17, will emerge at the launch event.
