POCO, the Xiaomi sub-brand, has brought the POCO M8x 5G to India as an entry-level 5G handset. The phone is built around a 7,900mAh battery and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, which makes its Indian debut here. Pricing starts at 20,999 rupees (about 35,000 yen), with sales opening on Flipkart at noon on August 27.

The First Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Phone in India

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 inside the POCO M8x 5G is an octa-core mobile platform built on a 4nm process, and this handset is the first device on sale in India to use it. POCO says the new chip makes app launches up to 43 percent faster.

It is paired with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X memory and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Those figures are ordinary for an entry-level phone, but seeing a current-generation SoC land in this price band is the clearest difference between the M8x and the models it competes with.

7,900mAh, 45W Charging and Reverse Power Delivery

The headline number is the 7,900mAh battery. POCO claims up to 3 days of runtime under typical usage, which puts battery life, usually the weak point of budget phones, front and center.

Wired charging runs at 45W. The phone also supports 22.5W wired reverse charging, so it can top up earbuds or another handset. Large-battery phones often end up doubling as power banks, and this feature is aimed squarely at that habit.

A 6.9-inch 120Hz LCD That Responds to Wet Fingers

The display is a 6.9-inch HD+ LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Peak brightness reaches 825 nits for outdoor visibility. The panel is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and supports DC dimming to reduce flicker at low brightness.

Wet Touch 2.0 keeps the touchscreen usable when fingers are wet from water or sweat, and the body carries an IP64 rating against dust and splashes. Choosing an LCD instead of an OLED panel freed up budget that clearly went into the battery and the chipset.

A 50MP Camera and Updates Through 2032

The rear camera is a dual setup with a 50MP main sensor, which supports 2x digital zoom, alongside a 2MP macro camera. The front camera is 8MP.

Software is Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. POCO commits to 4 OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches, which works out to updates running through 2032. Few phones around the 20,000-rupee mark spell out a window that long, and it matters to buyers who plan to keep a handset for years.

Price and Availability

The 4GB + 128GB model costs 20,999 rupees (about 35,000 yen) and the 6GB + 128GB model costs 22,999 rupees (about 38,000 yen). A launch coupon takes 2,000 rupees off, bringing them to 18,999 rupees (about 32,000 yen) and 20,999 rupees (about 35,000 yen).

Three colors are offered: a vegan leather green, blue and black. Sales begin at noon on August 27 through Flipkart. Only Indian market details have been announced so far, and availability in Japan or other regions has not been disclosed.
