HONOR has unveiled the HONOR X80 Pro Max 5G in China, a smartphone built around durability and battery life. It packs an 11,000mAh battery that HONOR bills as one of the largest ever fitted to a smartphone, a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 10,000-nit peak brightness, and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip. The phone is the successor to the recently launched X70 Pro Max, and pricing starts at 1,999 yuan (about 48,000 yen) for the 8GB + 128GB model.
An 11,000mAh battery billed as industry-leading
The standout feature of the X80 Pro Max is its 11,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which HONOR calls the "Qinghai Lake" battery. The company positions it as one of the largest capacities available on a smartphone, claiming up to 26 hours of continuous use and up to 42 days of standby. These are manufacturer figures and will vary with usage and signal conditions.
For charging, the phone supports 90W wired fast charging. It also offers 27W wired reverse charging, letting the device act as a power source for other gadgets. The combination of a large battery and fast charging targets users who prioritize battery life.
A 6.8-inch OLED with 10,000-nit peak brightness
The display is a 6.8-inch LTPS OLED panel with a 2788 × 1280 resolution. It covers the DCI-P3 wide color gamut, renders 1.07 billion colors, and reaches a 10,000-nit peak brightness in HDR and 2,000 nits at full-screen brightness, keeping it readable even under strong sunlight.
It also includes a range of eye-comfort features, such as 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and hardware-level low blue light, alongside AI-driven brightness adjustment and a mode that makes the screen easier on the eyes before sleep. The front is protected by durable aluminosilicate glass.
First to ship with Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, plus a full set of AI features
The phone runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. The X80 Pro Max is the first smartphone to use this new chip, paired with an Adreno 812 GPU. The OS is MagicOS 10.0, based on Android 16, and HONOR says the device can run smoothly without lag for up to six years. Memory and storage come in four configurations, from 8GB + 128GB up to 12GB + 512GB.
The AI toolkit is extensive, with AI subtitles, translation, call assistance and writing support, as well as the YOYO Agent and features that detect face-swap video and scam tactics. The rear camera is a 50MP unit (f/1.88 with OIS), capable of recording up to 4K video, and the front camera is 8MP (f/2.0).
Water and dust resistance built for harsh conditions
The X80 Pro Max is also clearly designed with durability in mind. It carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings, and HONOR claims it can withstand submersion to 10 meters, 100,000 water immersions, 85°C hot-water spray, and 24 hours of continuous salt-spray exposure. It is engineered for use in tough environments such as the outdoors or around water.
For connectivity, it supports 5G SA, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and an infrared remote, and works with multiple satellite positioning systems including BeiDou and GPS. The phone measures 162.2 × 77 × 8.08mm and weighs about 203 grams.
Pricing and colors
Chinese pricing is set per configuration, each with a subsidized price available under a national program.
The 8GB + 128GB model is 1,999 yuan (about 48,000 yen, or 1,699.15 yuan with the subsidy), the 8GB + 256GB is 2,199 yuan (about 53,000 yen), the 8GB + 512GB is 2,499 yuan (about 60,000 yen), and the 12GB + 512GB is 2,799 yuan (about 67,000 yen). The phone comes in four colors: Moon Shadow White, Vitality Orange, Lightning Red and Mystic Armor Black. For now this is a China-market announcement, and HONOR has not detailed availability in other regions. ※1 CNY = 24 JPY (as of June 2026)
Summary
The HONOR X80 Pro Max brings together a standout 11,000mAh battery, a bright 10,000-nit OLED, and high-grade water and dust resistance across multiple ratings in a single mid-range handset. It is the first phone to use the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and folds in a broad set of AI features. Rather than chasing flagship performance, it invests in the things that matter day to day—battery life and toughness—and, with a starting price of 1,999 yuan (about 48,000 yen), looks well suited to users who value dependability.
