Anthropic announced that it is bringing Claude Cowork, its agent feature that until now was limited to the desktop app, to the web and to smartphones. Cowork Steps Beyond the Desktop to Phone and Web
Claude Cowork is a feature where you hand over an entire task and Claude works across your files, calendar, email, messaging apps, the web, and the other tools you have connected, carrying the job through to completion. Rather than a chat that simply answers questions, its defining trait is that it takes on multi-step work on your behalf.
Until now, Cowork was only usable through the desktop app on a computer. With this expansion, it becomes available from smartphones and web browsers as well. It is not switched on for everyone at once; instead it arrives as a beta that widens in stages over several weeks. The first group is the monthly higher-tier Max plan, with other plans opening up afterward in sequence.
Three Changes: Work Travels with You, Keeps Going When Closed, and Leaves Decisions to You
Anthropic explains that making Cowork available on mobile and the web changes how it works in three ways.
The first is that the work follows you. You can start a task at your desk, check on it from your phone while you are out, and receive the finished output wherever you happen to be. In other words, you are no longer tied to where the work began.
The second is that processing continues even after you close your device. Close your laptop and head to a meeting, and Claude keeps working in the background. Scheduled tasks that run at set times now execute even when no device is online. For example, schedule client preparation for 6 a.m. on Monday, and Claude will go through the email threads, meeting transcripts, and recent news, put together a briefing document, and even draft the follow-up email, leaving it unsent and waiting for you. All that is left is to review it over your morning coffee.
The third is that the final call still rests with you. When Claude reaches a point that only you can decide, it asks each time, and the question is delivered to your phone. If you adjust the direction of a draft in the middle of a meeting, Claude simply continues along the corrected path. Nothing is sent externally until you have reviewed the content and approved it.
Supported Platforms and Availability
Cowork will be available from the sidebar of the Claude app on iPhone, iPad, and Android, as well as from the web version at claude.ai. From a phone or the web, you can handle the full flow of starting, steering, resuming, and reviewing a task, and you can also use connectors (integrations with outside services), skills, plugins, and scheduled tasks, manage projects, and preview the files Claude creates.
Alongside this, Anthropic says it will extend its doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5 to mark the arrival of Cowork on mobile and the web. The plan appears to be to widen supported plans and features while users try things out in beta.
Claude Fable 5 Access Also Extended
In the same announcement, Anthropic also touched on how it will handle Claude Fable 5, its most capable consumer model. Fable 5 had been set to shift to a token-based (usage-based) pricing model, but the company held off, keeping it available on all paid plans as-is for a few more days. Specifically, Fable 5 remains accessible on every paid plan through July 12.
