OnePlus has officially announced that its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, will go on sale in China on October 12, 2026. The announcement was made on the Chinese social network Weibo, where the company promised "the strongest performance ever" for performance enthusiasts. The phone is built around gaming: it pairs the latest Snapdragon with three in-house chips and is reported to carry a 9,000mAh battery.

The goal: the fastest phone for gaming

The teaser puts gaming experience front and center. OnePlus positions the OnePlus 16 as a pinnacle performance flagship for users who care most about speed.

The processor is reported to be Qualcomm's latest 2nm-class Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Some reports instead say Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, so which variant ships will probably be settled on launch day.

The display is a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel optimized for 165Hz across the whole system. In supported games it can go further, to a native 185Hz. Popular Chinese titles such as Game For Peace and Arena Breakout are named as examples.

Three in-house chips tune display, network and touch separately

OnePlus is promoting a "triple esports chip" setup made of three self-developed chips for gaming.

They are the Super Display P4 for display processing, the Wi-Fi/Esports Network Chip G3 for Wi-Fi and networking, and the Lingxi Touch Chip T3 for touch response. Apart from the main SoC, the idea appears to be to cut delays in display, connectivity and touch individually.

The company also mentions a frame-generation-style technology that smooths game visuals, along with a new-generation game core. Both are meant to keep gameplay fluid while holding down power consumption.

A 9,000mAh battery and a 200MP camera

The 9,000mAh battery is large for a smartphone, giving the chip room to sustain its performance.

The rear camera is reported to be a triple setup: a roughly 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Some reports say the main camera uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor. Shooting modes such as Master Mode, a high-resolution mode and a wide-format mode have been introduced.

Memory and storage options listed are 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB. There are three colors, one of which, "Tomorrow's Starlight," comes with a lighting effect.

Not easy to get from Japan

This launch is for China, and no global rollout has been announced. Reports note that OnePlus no longer operates in the United States and Europe, so buyers there would have to import the phone. There is no announcement for Japan at this time either.

Pricing has not been revealed. Some expect it to be higher than the previous generation because of the top-tier chip and rising memory costs.

Summary

The OnePlus 16 goes all in on gaming: the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite-generation chip, a 185Hz display, three in-house esports chips and a 9,000mAh battery. Because some details differ between reports, it is safest to wait for the official launch on October 12 to confirm the final specs. Pricing and any overseas availability are also expected to be revealed that day.
