Samsung Electronics announced on September 16, 2026 that it has begun the official rollout of One UI 9, its custom Android interface. The update is arriving first on the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Several Galaxy AI features that had previously been limited to the Galaxy Z Fold8 lineup and the Galaxy Z Flip8, both released in August, are now reaching Samsung's flagship S-series, and Samsung says the rollout will continue to additional devices over time.
A camera feature that keeps a chosen person in frame
One of the standout additions in this release is a new video feature called My FanCam. While recording, it automatically tracks a specific person and keeps them centered in the frame, adjusting the composition as they move. Samsung positions it for scenarios such as following a favorite performer at a concert or keeping a child in view during a school recital, addressing a common frustration where a subject drifts out of frame during handheld recording.
Beyond that, Now Brief, which surfaces a personal summary covering things like health data, weather, and recent videos, now generates and lets users edit its cards. Now Nudge adds context-aware suggestions for what to do next, and Creative Studio can generate images tailored to occasions such as birthdays. The Interpreter translation tool gains a Thread View that displays the flow of a conversation, making it easier to follow multilingual exchanges among several people. Samsung also improved document scanning for correcting skewed pages and added an automatic summary feature for voice recordings.
Security and device support get a boost too
Convenience isn't the only focus of this update; security has been strengthened as well. A new Security Brief gathers key security and privacy warnings — malware alerts, apps from unknown sources, and unnecessary permission requests — into Now Brief, while Privacy Alerts uses on-device AI to surface apps attempting to access permissions in the background. Scam Detection has also expanded its coverage of scam calls, reaching Japan, Canada, and India. On the support side, a new Warranty and Care section lets users check warranty coverage, run self-diagnostics, view repair estimates, and manage Samsung Care+ or book a service appointment without leaving the Settings app.
More devices are expected to follow
Samsung is starting the rollout with the Galaxy S26 series, but the list of eligible devices is expected to grow. Similar functionality has already reached the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8, and the gap in Galaxy AI capabilities across Samsung's current lineup is narrowing as a result. Samsung notes that the exact rollout timeline may vary by region, carrier, and device configuration, so further announcements are expected before older models receive the update.
Summary
Samsung began the official rollout of One UI 9 to the Galaxy S26 series on September 16, 2026. Alongside convenience features like the person-tracking My FanCam and the generative Now Brief, the update also strengthens safety with additions such as Security Brief and Privacy Alerts, signaling that Galaxy AI is now reaching Samsung's current flagship line in earnest. The list of supported devices is expected to keep expanding, bringing the Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 series into a more unified Galaxy experience.
