Sony has added a new color, Olive Gray, to its WH-1000XM6 wireless noise-cancelling headphones. Sales began in the US on August 3, 2026, at 459 USD (about 72,000 yen). Only the exterior color is new: sound quality, noise cancellation, and supported features are identical to the current model. Japan still lists five colors, and no Olive Gray release has been announced there.
A Sixth Color for a Muted, Nature-Toned Range
The WH-1000XM6 color range has grown gradually from the Black and Platinum Silver available at launch. Midnight Blue, a deep navy, arrived alongside the pale Sand Pink and the sand-toned Sandstone, all of them low in saturation.
Olive Gray follows that same direction. Rather than a vivid green, it is a deep green muted with gray, which Sony describes as a green with an earthy quality. Headphones occupy a large visible area beside the face, so a wider choice of colors that blend into everyday clothing is more practical than it may sound.
Sony has also been expanding the finishes across the 1000X series year after year, including higher-end commemorative models. Adding Olive Gray looks less like a performance refresh and more like another step in broadening the choices.
Only the Color Changed, the Specifications Are Unchanged
Nothing about the hardware or the feature set changed with this addition. Noise cancellation runs on the QN3 processor, a generation ahead of the previous chip, paired with 12 microphones that analyze ambient noise and wearing conditions in real time and adjust accordingly. Sony claims world-leading class performance among headband-style noise-cancelling headphones, based on its own research as of June 1, 2026, using measurements aligned with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards.
Battery life reaches up to 30 hours of continuous playback with noise cancelling on and up to 40 hours with it off. Talk time is up to 24 hours with noise cancelling on, and charging takes about 3.5 hours. Wireless connectivity uses Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 codecs, plus support for LE Audio, the low-power standard. Multipoint for two simultaneous connections, Google Fast Pair on Android, and Swift Pair on Windows are all supported.
The body folds, and the hinge uses metal injection molding (MIM), a process suited to intricate shapes. The carrying case opens and closes magnetically, making it easier to use than the previous generation. Wired playback also supports high-resolution audio, with a frequency response of 4 Hz to 40,000 Hz (JEITA).
Japan Stays at Five Colors, and the Price Gap Needs Context
Japan offers Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, Sand Pink, and Sandstone. The Sony Store price is 59,400 yen including tax, and the domestic launch was in May 2025. There is no announcement yet about Olive Gray reaching Japan.
Converting 459 USD gives roughly 72,000 yen, but comparing that directly with the Japanese price is misleading. US list prices typically exclude state sales tax, and a weak yen inflates the converted figure relative to reality. Domestic street prices also move with sales and point rewards, so the Japanese price is the better reference point when weighing anything other than color.
Personal importing remains an option for anyone set on Olive Gray, though whether the domestic warranty applies depends on where the unit is purchased. It is worth checking first whether the five colors available from the Sony Store or Amazon.co.jp already cover what you need.

Summary
Olive Gray is a muted deep green added to the WH-1000XM6 range, on sale in the US from August 3, 2026, at 459 USD. The QN3-based 12-microphone noise cancellation, up to 30 hours of playback, and LDAC and LE Audio support all carry over unchanged, leaving color as the only difference. Japan still has five colors, so waiting for the new shade or settling on an existing one will remain a judgment call for a while.
