SAMSUNG announced the Galaxy S26 FE on August 27, adding a new member to the Galaxy S26 family. It is the first phone in the lineup to ship with One UI 9, and its telephoto camera carries over the 3x optical zoom from the Galaxy S25 FE. The device combines a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, a 4,900mAh battery and the 3nm Exynos 2500, and it goes on sale in select markets starting September 4[1].
The First S26 Phone to Ship With One UI 9
The Galaxy S26 FE joins a series that launched back in February 2026. The most interesting part of this announcement is that a phone arriving after the flagships is the first in the family to ship with One UI 9 out of the box. The underlying platform is Android 17.
Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office at SAMSUNG's Mobile eXperience Business, said the phone was designed to deliver the signature strengths of the Galaxy S series so that every feature makes a meaningful difference in daily use. Rather than chasing novelty, SAMSUNG picked the features that resonated on the flagship models and brought them down a tier.
The Camera Leads With 3x Optical Zoom and My FanCam
The rear array is a triple setup. The wide camera is 50MP with OIS, F1.8 and an 84-degree field of view. The ultra-wide is 12MP at F2.2 with a 123-degree field of view. The telephoto is 8MP at F2.4 with 3x optical zoom, up to 30x digital zoom and OIS. The front camera is 12MP at F2.2, and its field of view widens to 85 degrees, which SAMSUNG says makes group shots easier than on the Galaxy S25 FE and its 80-degree field of view.
The headline new feature is My FanCam, introduced first on the latest Galaxy foldables. It automatically tracks a selected person and reframes the video so the subject stays centered as the scene moves, cutting down on manual editing afterward.
Video also gains Super Steady with Horizontal Lock, a feature that keeps footage level even when the phone tilts and one that Galaxy S26 owners have singled out. Nightography remains on board for low-light shots.
For editing after the fact, Photo Assist accepts natural language prompts to turn day into night, add elements or restore missing parts, with step-by-step revision and undo. Saved images carry a visible watermark indicating AI generation. Gemini Omni can also build edited clips from photos and videos in the Gallery, though it requires an eligible Google AI Pro subscription.
Now Brief and Now Nudge Get an Update
On the Galaxy AI side, One UI 9 brings changes worth noting. Now Brief, introduced on the Galaxy S25 series, now lets users choose briefing cards such as weather and wellness insights. A short prompt is enough to create a custom card, so the information surfaced through the day can be tuned to a personal routine.
Now Nudge expands to select third-party apps and notifications. SAMSUNG lists Google Messages, Google Chat, KakaoTalk, LINE, Signal, Tango, NTT Docomo Message and KDDI Message among the supported services.
Circle to Search with Google can now identify multiple items in a single image at once, so there is no need to circle each product, place or object separately.
Battery, Display and Seven Generations of OS Upgrades
The battery is rated at 4,900mAh, with a minimum rated capacity of 4,755mAh. It supports 45W wired charging and reaches up to 69 percent in roughly 30 minutes with a 45W adapter, which is sold separately. Wireless charging runs at 15W, and Wireless PowerShare can top up other devices.
The display is a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that switches between 60Hz and 120Hz, with peak brightness of 1,900 nits. The body measures 161.6 x 76.9 x 7.4mm, weighs 193g and carries an IP68 rating.
Longevity is a clear focus. SAMSUNG promises up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Smart Switch has also been improved: scanning a QR code wirelessly transfers passwords, passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM data. Transfers from iOS require Android 17 with One UI 9 or later on the receiving device and iOS 26.6 or later on the sending device.

The phone also comes with a 6-month free trial of Google AI Pro, a service valued at 19.99 USD (about 3,200 yen) per month that includes 5TB of cloud storage.

Price and Availability
Sales begin September 4 in select markets, in Blueberry, Graphite and Pistachio, though color availability varies by country and carrier. In the United States the phone starts at 699.99 USD (about 111,000 yen); select carriers begin selling it on September 3, with Samsung.com, carriers and retailers nationwide following on September 4. The US lineup offers two storage tiers, 128GB and 256GB[2].
The global announcement does not mention availability in Japan. The presence of Japanese messaging services among the Now Nudge partners is encouraging, but pricing and timing for that market remain unannounced.
On the support side, Samsung Care+ is available, and One UI 9 adds a warranty and care hub in settings so enrollment and management can be handled from the phone.
