NVIDIA and SEGA have announced an initiative to celebrate 30 years of collaboration, with the reveal taking place in Akihabara, Tokyo. The two companies said that SEGA's latest fighting game, VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS, along with a lineup of legendary titles, will come to NVIDIA's new AI superchip, RTX Spark. RTX Spark is a next-generation chip designed for slim Windows laptops and compact desktop PCs.

Looking Back on 30 Years in Akihabara

The announcement was made at the site of the former SEGA Akihabara arcade, now GiGO Akihabara Building 3[1]. On hand were NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, along with SEGA CEO Haruki Satomi, COO Shuji Utsumi, Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki, and former SEGA President Shoichiro Irimajiri[1].

The relationship between the two companies dates back 30 years. At the time, NVIDIA's NV1 chip powered the first Virtua Fighter title on PC, one of the world's earliest 3D fighting games[1]. Having refined graphics technology together across arcade systems and home consoles, the two companies are now joining forces again on the newest PC platform.

What Kind of Chip Is RTX Spark

RTX Spark is a new superchip that NVIDIA unveiled on May 31, 2026[2]. It offers up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and up to 128GB of unified memory, and is built to run personal AI agents continuously on a local device[2].

At its core is an NVIDIA Blackwell-generation RTX GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores and fifth-generation Tensor Cores, connected to a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU via an interconnect technology called NVLink-C2C[2]. MediaTek, known for its Arm-based semiconductor designs, collaborated on the custom CPU design[2].

The hardware ranges from laptops as slim as 14mm to compact desktops, and can tap NVIDIA's gaming technologies such as ray tracing and DLSS. NVIDIA says it can run AAA games at 1440p and more than 100 frames per second[2]. RTX Spark systems will arrive in fall 2026 from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface and MSI, with models from Acer and GIGABYTE to follow[2].

Broader Options Through Game Support

VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS, named in this announcement, is the latest entry in the series and is expected to launch in 2027[3]. SEGA says it will begin with this title and continue to add RTX Spark support in future games[1]. That said, a specific release timing for the RTX Spark version and the names of other supported titles have not been disclosed at this point[3].

Even on slim laptops, players are expected to be able to enjoy SEGA's flagship series with visuals that leverage ray tracing, DLSS and AI technology[1]. In the sense of preserving classic works on new hardware and carrying them into the next generation, it is a fitting collaboration for the milestone.

Summary

Building on their 30-year relationship, NVIDIA and SEGA outlined in Akihabara a plan to bring a lineup of titles including VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS to RTX Spark. RTX Spark is a new AI superchip for slim PCs, and systems using it are scheduled to arrive in fall 2026. While details such as the specific game release timing remain undecided, the key point to watch is how far this hardware-and-games combination can expand the personal AI PC experience.
