Insta360's next flagship 360 camera, the "X6," has cleared certification from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The model code is listed as CINSABXA, and registrations have already been confirmed in China and the United Arab Emirates. Certification is a strong sign that an official launch is near, but Insta360 has not made any announcement yet, so all of the specifications below remain at the rumor and pre-release stage. The final details may change.

FCC certification signals an imminent launch

A 360 camera (spherical camera) uses two lenses, front and back, to capture everything around it, letting you crop to whichever direction you want to see afterward. Insta360 leads this category with its popular "X" series, and the X6 is set to be its newest model.

What has now come to light is that a product believed to be the X6 has obtained US FCC certification. FCC certification is a mandatory step before a wireless device can be sold in the United States, and the filing includes test results for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and radio-frequency exposure to the human body (SAR). Manufacturers often apply once a product is ready to reach the market, so it is read as a sign that a release is coming into view.

The X6 has also been confirmed with similar registrations in China and the UAE, indicating that the process is moving forward in step across multiple regions. With past models, these national certifications have tended to appear a few weeks before an official announcement.

When to expect the announcement

Insta360's X series has arrived in spring for its two most recent generations: the X4 in April 2024 and the X5 in April 2025. Based on that pattern, the X6 was initially expected in the spring of 2026, but given the certification activity, some now believe the actual debut has slipped somewhat later. At this point, the prevailing view is that an official announcement will come within a few weeks to a few months.

Either way, the concrete progress of FCC certification lends real weight to the view that an announcement is close.

The rumored headline upgrade is 8K60fps

The most closely watched point in the pre-release information is a boost in video performance. The X6 is said to support 8K60fps (60 frames per second) 360 capture. Since the current X5 tops out at 8K30fps, this would represent a major gain in smoothness if realized. Support for 10-bit color, which allows richer tonal gradations, is also rumored.

The sensor is likewise expected to grow larger than the current model. There is information that it will match, or even exceed, the 1/1.1-inch class large sensor used in DJI's "Osmo 360" rival, raising expectations for better image quality in dark scenes. Some rumors also point to still photography exceeding 100 megapixels.

Battery capacity is thought to increase to around 2,600mAh to 3,000mAh, while the waterproof design and durability are expected to be maintained as before. AI features that assist post-shoot editing are also said to be further strengthened in the app and the dedicated "Insta360 Studio" software.

Price and the rival on the scene

As for price, the US expectation is 549 to 599 USD (about 89,000 to 97,000 yen) for the standard configuration, with the street price at launch seen landing around 579 USD (about 94,000 yen). Pricing for Japan is not yet clear, but judging by the trend of previous X-series models, it may settle at a similar level.

※1 USD = 162 JPY

In the 360 camera market, DJI has entered in earnest with the Osmo 360, and competition between the two companies is helping to drive product evolution. The rumors of a larger sensor and 8K60fps support appear to be rooted in that rivalry as well.

Summary

Insta360's next 360 camera, the "X6," has cleared US FCC certification, taking another step toward release. If the rumored 8K60fps support, larger sensor, and 10-bit color come to pass, it would mark a significant advance for a 360 camera. For now, however, it remains pre-announcement, and the specs, launch timing, and price are all unconfirmed. We will be waiting for the official word.
