Anthropic has introduced Claude for Financial Advisors, a new offering aimed at independent financial advisors. The service pairs a set of connectors to existing back-office systems with automated workflow skills for meeting preparation and documentation, and launches with early partners including Charles Schwab and BlackRock.

Automating Everything from Meeting Prep to Paperwork

Advisory practices reportedly spend only about one-sixth of their working time in front of clients, with the rest going toward preparation and documentation spread across multiple disconnected systems. Claude for Financial Advisors is built to cut into that overhead.

The offering centers on two components: connectors that link Claude to tools advisors already use, and skills that automate recurring tasks. Connectors cover Addepar, BlackRock Advisor Center, Charles Schwab, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, SS&C Black Diamond, Wealthbox, Wealth.com, and Vanguard, in addition to existing integrations with Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and DocuSign. On the skills side, the launch includes advisor onboarding, alternative-investment briefs, compliance review, estate and tax briefs, portfolio rebalance review, post-meeting follow-up, pre-meeting prep, and prospect intake.

Schwab Brings Claude to More Than 16,000 Independent Advisors

The centerpiece partnership is with Schwab Advisor Services, the custody arm of Charles Schwab. Schwab said it will make Claude for Financial Advisors available to the more than 16,000 independent registered investment advisors (RIAs) it serves, making Schwab Advisor Services the first, and currently only, RIA custodian integrated with the product. Advisors on the platform get an authenticated connection from Claude directly into Schwab Advisor Center, along with audit logging for administrative oversight.

Schwab Advisor Services executive Jon Beatty said integrating AI with the proprietary workflows and technology stacks advisors have already built amplifies its ability to help them stand apart. Anthropic's Peter Nolan echoed that bringing Claude to Schwab and its network of over 16,000 independent RIAs puts the tool in front of firms doing this work daily.

BlackRock and Other Major Names Join as Partners

Beyond Schwab, partners include BlackRock, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com, and Vanguard, along with advisory firms Mercer Advisors, Rockefeller Capital Management, Ritholtz Wealth Management, and Dynasty Financial Partners. BlackRock's Jaime Magyera pointed to advisors having to navigate increasingly complex client needs alongside accelerating market and technology change, while Mercer Advisors' Daniel Gourvitch said Claude lets teams work across a client's entire financial life while keeping judgment with the advisor.

Anthropic recommends Enterprise plans, which include audit logging, for firms adopting the product, though specific pricing has not been disclosed. Firms that request new licenses before September 30 will receive a one-time usage credit.

Competition in Financial AI Is Heating Up

The announcement lands just days after rival OpenAI unveiled a finance-focused version of ChatGPT aimed at investment bankers and equity researchers. Financial services, with its mix of sensitive data and specialized expertise, has become a battleground where major AI labs are pushing to establish a foothold. At the same time, some industry observers are questioning whether the enormous spending behind AI development is sustainable, and raising concerns about potential misuse of the technology.

Summary

Claude for Financial Advisors is built around connecting to advisors' existing systems and automating routine work to reduce administrative burden. The partnership with Schwab Advisor Services opens the door to more than 16,000 independent RIAs, while BlackRock and other major financial firms have signed on as early partners. With OpenAI and other rivals also moving into the space, competition over finance-focused AI tools looks set to intensify.
