vivo is reviving its S Series in India, and the first model, the vivo S2, will be unveiled at noon local time on August 6. In a note published on July 31, the head of product at vivo India framed the line as one that steps away from the spec race and leans on design and camera expression instead. The official teaser shows a curved display and a rear camera housing with two round lenses.
The S Series Returns After a Long Gap
The S Series had been absent from India for years. The S1 arrived in 2019, derivative models followed in 2020, and nothing new came after that. The vivo S2 marks a restart roughly six years later.
Paigham Danish, Head of Product and GTM at vivo India, describes the revival as a way to fill that gap. Each of the company's product lines serves a distinct need, and as a generation emerged that wants aspiration, creative tools and dependable everyday use at the same time, that expectation needed its own place in the portfolio.
Selling Fit with Daily Life Rather Than Raw Speed
Danish's argument centers on a shift in how phones are judged. Competition across the industry has lifted baseline performance, so the question of what a device can do no longer separates products the way it used to. What matters instead is how naturally the phone fits into the owner's life.
vivo says the S2 rests on two ideas. The first treats design as a form of communication: not styling that grabs attention for a moment, but a look and feel people still enjoy after months of daily use. The second treats imaging as expression rather than record-keeping. Cameras have become tools for joining conversations, building communities and telling personal stories.
That framing reflects the target audience. vivo presents the S2 as a phone that embodies the creativity and individuality of today's younger buyers.
The published teaser material reveals several details: a display that curves gently toward the sides, a rounded-square camera housing in the upper left of the back, two large circular lenses stacked inside it, and a separate ring next to them. Two body colors are shown, white and dark navy.
The circle beside the camera housing appears to be a light ring. Whether it is aimed at low-light shooting or at notification effects should become clear on August 6. The teaser does confirm that the phone runs OriginOS.
What Leaks Say About the Hardware
Official specifications have not been released, but leaks circulating in India sketch the outline. The display is said to be a 6.83-inch curved AMOLED panel at 1.5K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. The processor is reported to be MediaTek's Dimensity 7360-Turbo, with OriginOS 6 based on Android 16.
Battery capacity is put at 7,050mAh, with charging limited to 44W. The rear camera is described as a 50MP main sensor using Sony's IMX852 alongside a 2MP secondary lens, with a 32MP front camera. Ingress protection is expected to cover IP68 as well as IP69.
All of this remains pre-launch information. Confirmed figures, pricing included, will come on August 6.
