An unusual portable SSD is sitting on the show floor at IFA 2026 in Berlin. Kyokuto Electronics has unveiled the NANO Pro Series AI Portable SSD under its SUNEAST brand. Beyond storing data, it starts recording at the press of a single button, and an AI model running on the device itself handles transcription and summarization. The idea is to stretch the role of storage from simply saving files to capturing and organizing information. Pricing and availability will be announced later this year.

Recording Starts with One Button

The most striking part of this product is the physical record button on the body. Pulling out a phone, hunting for an app, launching it and hitting record is replaced by a single press.

Meetings, sales calls, interviews, lectures, a passing idea worth keeping. Moments worth recording come up constantly, yet in practice the few seconds of setup are often enough to miss them. If that capability lives in the storage device already in your pocket, a separate voice recorder becomes unnecessary.

SUNEAST is careful to note that this is not built as a high-end voice recorder. It remains an everyday portable SSD, handling photo and video offloads from a phone and file transfers between PCs. Recording is simply one more way in.

Processing Happens on the Device, Not in the Cloud

Recorded audio can be transcribed, summarized and organized by a local AI model. The key point is that this processing is completed on the device rather than in the cloud.

Handing transcription to a cloud service is already common practice, but recordings of meetings and negotiations are a different matter. Client names, the substance of price talks, unannounced plans. The moment that material is uploaded to an outside server, the question of how it is handled becomes something an organization has to answer. In companies that restrict which data may leave the building, the answer is often that the tool simply cannot be used.

Keeping processing on the device changes that calculus. Audio and documents never leave, yet the benefits of AI remain, which lowers the barrier for business use as well as personal use. Local AI is no longer a novel phrase, but placing it inside a piece of storage that fits in your palm, rather than a phone or a PC, is an unusual move.

From a Box That Stores Files to an Information Tool

The NANO Pro is the successor to the Portable SSD Nano, an ultra-compact drive launched in 2025. The earlier model weighed 2.8 grams and earned a following because it could be left plugged into a PC or phone permanently. The new model keeps that compactness while substantially changing its character.

Save photos. Carry video. Move work files. Record a meeting. Keep an idea. Then let AI organize it. Consolidating roles that were previously split across several devices and apps into a single nano-sized SSD is the concept the company is putting forward.

Storage has long been a market driven by cost per gigabyte and transfer speed, a category where feature-based differentiation is hard. Introducing recording and AI as a separate axis reads as an attempt to step out of that price competition.

Exhibiting in Hall 20 at IFA 2026

The SUNEAST booth is in Hall 20, the Content Creation area at Messe Berlin, at stand H20-153. The show runs from September 4 to September 8, 2026. In a black-and-gold space, the NANO Pro is displayed alongside memory cards, existing portable SSDs and wireless chargers.

The booth also includes a photo area styled after a Japanese garden, where visitors can shoot on the spot. Rather than lining up storage products on their own, the display presents the whole flow of shooting, recording and saving.

For now, only the concept and headline features have been disclosed. Capacity options, transfer speeds, recording time, supported languages and the nature of the AI model itself remain unannounced. Adding recording and local AI also raises questions about power draw, heat and whether there is an internal battery, and those answers are waiting until the end of the year as well. A real assessment of how it performs will have to wait a while longer.

Summary

The NANO Pro Series AI Portable SSD that SUNEAST showed for the first time at IFA 2026 is an ultra-compact portable SSD with one-touch recording and local AI-based information organization. Because audio processing is completed on the device, it is designed to be workable even for sensitive meetings and negotiations. It retains the small footprint of the earlier Portable SSD Nano while extending its role from a storage device to an information tool. Pricing, capacities and detailed specifications are due to be announced before the end of 2026.
