Samsung has released The Freestyle+ (model LFF3H), a portable projector built around AI. Its headline trick is that you no longer need a dedicated screen or a plain white wall: the projector uses AI to read the color, unevenness, and obstacles of whatever surface you aim it at, then adjusts the image automatically. It casts up to a 100-inch Full HD picture from a body you can carry around, priced at 1,199.99 USD (about 200,000 yen). Sales have started in the United States through Samsung.com and select retailers.

AI Features That Let You Project Almost Anywhere

The Freestyle+ is designed to be indifferent to where you set it up. Traditional projectors need a flat, white screen or wall to look good, but this model pairs AI with sensors to adapt the image to whatever it is pointed at.

At the center are 3D Auto Keystone and Wall Calibration. The former automatically corrects the distortion that appears when you project onto a tilted or uneven surface. The latter analyzes the color of the projection surface and adjusts the image's color and brightness to match, so the picture stays watchable even on patterned wallpaper or a colored wall.

Screen Fit adjusts the image so it lands within a specific area of your wall, and obstacle avoidance detects objects in the projection path and shifts the image to keep the view uninterrupted. For focus, a built-in ultrasonic motor measures the distance to the surface and locks focus instantly through a feature called Real-time Focus. The design hands off to AI all the fiddly manual adjustment you would otherwise repeat every time you move the unit.

Note that Wall Calibration and obstacle avoidance need to be turned on by the user before use.

Brightness and Sound, Stepped Up for a Portable

On the visual side, the projector delivers up to 430 ISO lumens. Samsung says that is roughly twice the brightness of the previous Freestyle. Portable projectors often feel dim, but this figure is aimed at viewing both indoors and outdoors after dark. The picture supports Samsung's PurColor technology and HDR10+, adding depth of color and contrast for movies and games.

Audio comes from a built-in speaker that fills the room with 360-degree sound through dual passive woofers. Pair it with a compatible Samsung soundbar or Wi-Fi speaker and you can also use Q-Symphony, which synchronizes the sound from the projector and the speaker for a more spatial mix matched to the picture.

Smart Features and an AI Assistant, Too

The Freestyle+ is also built to stand on its own as an entertainment hub. Its standard Smart Hub gives you access to major streaming apps, and it supports Samsung TV Plus with more than 750 subscription-free channels. Games can be streamed from the cloud through Gaming Hub, so you can play without a dedicated console.

The Vision AI Companion assistant is another highlight. It combines Samsung's Bixby with Google's Gemini so you can speak to the screen to ask questions or get recommendations for what you are watching. Phone connectivity is broad as well: with compatible Galaxy devices you can mirror the screen via Tap View or Smart View, and with Apple products such as the iPhone you can use AirPlay 2.

For power, the projector can run off the separately sold Freestyle Battery Base or a commercially available USB Type-C battery, making it a good fit for taking outdoors where there is no outlet.

The Freestyle+ (LFF3H) is on sale in the United States for 1,199.99 USD (about 200,000 yen) through Samsung.com and select retailers. Availability in Japan has not been announced at this time.
