ASUS's gaming brand Republic of Gamers (ROG) and AR glasses maker XREAL have jointly developed the ROG XREAL R1 gaming AR glasses, which go on sale in Japan in sequence starting July 14, 2026. The glasses use a Sony micro-OLED panel for each eye and support a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz, a world first. By simply connecting a gaming PC such as the ROG Ally over USB-C, users can project a large screen right in front of their eyes. In Japan, prices start at 141,550 yen including tax.
World's First 240Hz Gaming AR Glasses
The ROG XREAL R1 was announced on June 15, 2026. After being previewed at trade shows such as CES and COMPUTEX, the product has finally arrived in Japan. Its biggest feature is display performance built specifically for gaming.
The display uses a Sony micro-OLED panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 per eye. The maximum refresh rate is 240Hz, and the response time is 0.01 ms. The motion-to-photon latency, the time from moving your head to the movement being reflected on screen, is a short 3 ms, leaving virtually no perceptible lag. With a 57-degree field of view, the glasses can project the equivalent of a roughly 171-inch screen from four meters away.
The device weighs just 91 grams. Although it takes the form of sunglasses, the temples light up in true ROG style. On the audio side, Bose collaborated on the sound tuning, so the R1 is refined not only in visuals but in sound as well.
Direct Connection to the ROG Ally, Plus a Bundled Dock for Home Consoles
The ROG XREAL R1 can output video simply by connecting directly over a USB-C cable to handheld gaming PCs such as the ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and Lenovo Legion Go. The appeal is that a large-screen play environment can be carried around with a single cable.
The glasses also come with a video-conversion dock called the ROG Control Dock. This dock provides two HDMI 2.0 inputs and one DisplayPort 1.4 input, allowing you to connect devices that are hard to hook up directly over USB-C. Home consoles such as the Nintendo Switch 2 can also be connected through this dock.
In addition, the R1 offers a mode that converts 2D video into 3D for display, as well as a feature that turns the screen off with a single button. These are designed to make it easier to check smartphone notifications or take a sip of a drink during a break without removing the glasses.
Price, Release Date, and Pre-order Bonuses
In Japan, the R1 costs 141,550 yen including tax (with a one-year warranty) at the XREAL official shop, the official Amazon store, and the ASUS official online store. At ASUS ROG authorized retailers, it is 160,360 yen including tax (with a two-year warranty). The global price is 849 USD (about 137,000 yen), and the ROG Control Dock is bundled in every case.
Sales begin in sequence from July 14, 2026. As a pre-order bonus, the first 300 buyers receive the XREAL Eye and the ROG Keris II Ace, and can also purchase any chair in CAGUUU's AXISU series at 10 percent off.
