On September 3, 2026, at its Lenovo Innovation World event held alongside IFA 2026 in Berlin, Lenovo announced a broader rollout of Lenovo & Motorola Qira, the personal AI built into Lenovo and Motorola devices. The expansion rests on 4 pillars: support for Lenovo PCs with 16GB of memory, a rollout to Motorola devices as they move to Android 17, the first wearable to carry Qira in the form of the moto watch ultra, and connections to everyday apps such as Gmail and Slack. Japanese is not among the supported languages at this point.

What Qira Is: An AI Built Into the Device Rather Than an App

Qira is a personal AI that Lenovo first showed in January 2026 at Tech World, held alongside CES 2026. Instead of being layered on as a standalone app, it is integrated at the system level into PCs, smartphones, tablets and wearables, with the aim of carrying work across devices. At MWC 2026 in March, the rollout began across more than 20 Lenovo PCs spanning the Yoga, IdeaPad, Legion and ThinkPad families, and the Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 became the first tablet to support it.

According to Lenovo, in the 6 months since then Qira has reached more than 80 supported PC configurations across its commercial and consumer lines, along with select tablets and Motorola smartphones. It currently supports 6 languages; as of March, those were English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese. Lenovo says more languages are coming, but has not given a timeline for Japanese.

At the heart of Qira is a personal knowledge base built from the information users choose to share. Lenovo describes it as bringing prioritized notification summaries and cross-device memory into one interface so that people can catch up on what they missed, recall what matters and pick up where they left off. Dan Dery, Lenovo's Vice President of AI Ecosystem, said that personal AI should not be another app waiting for a prompt, and that the goal is an intelligence that understands what matters to the user, moves with them across devices and helps orchestrate next steps across the agents and apps they choose.

Wider Device Support: 16GB PCs and Motorola Devices on Android 17

The biggest change in reach concerns PCs. Until now Qira has targeted configurations with larger amounts of memory, but support is expanding to eligible Lenovo PCs with 16GB. Lenovo says continued optimization of its local models has made on-device processing viable as the foundation on more standard configurations. Eligible users can download Qira from Lenovo's website, and preloading on supported devices will follow at a later date.

On the Motorola side, Qira will arrive on eligible edge, signature and razr devices as they receive the Android 17 upgrade. Smartphones that currently feature moto ai and tablets that feature AI Now will transition to Motorola Qira with the Android 17 update. The rollout is gradual, with timing varying by device and market. Lenovo also plans to extend Qira to additional device families and form factors by the end of 2026.

moto watch ultra: The First Wearable With Qira

The first wearable to support Qira is Motorola's moto watch ultra, also announced at IFA 2026. Users can raise their wrist or say “Hey Qira” to ask general questions or pull up information from the memory shared across their Lenovo and Motorola devices. Using the feature requires a Motorola account and an active connection to a Qira-compatible device.

The watch itself runs Wear OS and offers Google apps including Google Gemini, Google Maps and Google Wallet. It pairs a 46mm stainless steel body with a 1.5-inch OLED display reaching 2,700 nits, and it is the first moto watch with LTE (eSIM) connectivity. A Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 handles processing, and the watch includes dual-band GPS, IP68 and 5ATM water protection and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. On the health side it offers sleep and recovery analysis based on Polar's algorithms as well as a Running Coach feature. Battery life is up to 2 days with the always-on display off, and a 15-minute charge provides up to 24 hours of use. In the United States it goes on sale September 10 on Motorola.com for 349.99 USD (about 54,000 yen), with Verizon following on September 24. No Japanese launch has been announced.

A Workato Collaboration Connects Gmail and Slack

The other pillar is app integration. Through a new collaboration with Workato, a company that provides an automation platform for connecting business applications, Qira on supported devices can connect to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Slack, Outlook Mail and Outlook Calendar. Rather than opening email, calendar and chat tools one by one to hunt for information, users can ask Qira to find what they need and carry through to the action itself.

The examples Lenovo gives are a calendar event that changes, or an important update landing in an email or group chat. Users can use the Catch Me Up feature to review what they missed and then act from the same interface, whether that means replying or adjusting a schedule. Lenovo says the integrations operate with user permission and control, and that connected app functionality varies by market, service and account type.

Notion and Perplexity Too: Moving Between Notes and Research

App integration also extends to Notion and Perplexity. Connecting a Notion account lets users pull up and edit information from their projects directly from Qira. The Perplexity integration, which already existed, is being expanded to support deeper research, including visual references for the user's interests and goals in more situations. The aim is to let people keep working on moodboards, documents and research without switching apps or devices.

Local-First Design and the Outlook Ahead

On privacy, Lenovo emphasizes its hybrid, local-first architecture. Processing happens on the device where supported, and information added to the personal knowledge base is encrypted and stored locally. When cloud processing is needed, only the prompt and the context relevant to that request are sent through encrypted channels. Cross-device synchronization is optional and controlled by the user.

Lenovo notes that the availability, timing and experience of the features shown at IFA vary by device, market, configuration and platform. Some features require software updates, user permission, supported apps or services, account sign-in or an internet connection.
