Detailed specifications for the foldable phones SAMSUNG is expected to unveil at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22 have surfaced ahead of the event. This time the leak covers not only the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 but also the higher-tier Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The gap between the two models centers on screen size and cameras, with a reported price difference of 200 euros in Germany.

The Ultra is a different animal, inside and out

What stands out in the leaked specs is that the Fold 8 Ultra is not simply a larger version of the Fold 8.

The Fold 8 Ultra reportedly uses an 8-inch main display at 2504×2256. Given that the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 sits at 2184×1968, that means a step up in sharpness as well as area. The cover display is listed as 6.5 inches at 2520×1080, which should make the closed-phone experience feel closer to a conventional tall smartphone. Both panels are said to run at 120Hz.

The camera gap is even clearer. The Fold 8 Ultra reportedly carries a 200MP wide camera with optical image stabilization, a 10MP 3x telephoto, and a 50MP ultra-wide. Moving the ultra-wide from 12MP to 50MP addresses one of the weaker points on foldables. Front cameras are 10MP on both the cover and main displays.

The standard Fold 8 is a more practical package

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is listed with a 7.6-inch main display at 2448×1848 and a 5.5-inch cover display at 1972×1248. The panels are Dynamic AMOLED 2X units, also running at 120Hz.

Unfolded, the body measures 4.5mm thick at 161.4×123.9mm and weighs 201g, with IP48 water and dust resistance. The rear camera setup is a dual arrangement of a 50MP wide with optical image stabilization and a 50MP ultra-wide, dropping the telephoto. Battery capacity is 4,800mAh with 45W fast charging.

Comparing the two, the Fold 8 Ultra is thinner at 4.1mm but heavier at 218g. Making the screen larger while shaving thickness appears to have raised the density of the internals. The Ultra battery grows to 5,000mAh, with charging speed shared at 45W.

Same processor, different memory tiers

The silicon is common to both models. Each is said to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, so raw performance is not what separates the tiers.

For the Fold 8, RAM and storage are listed as 12GB paired with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB, with only the top storage tier moving to 16GB. The Fold 8 Ultra is listed as 12GB with 256GB or 512GB, or 16GB with 1TB. Tying the memory bump to the largest storage option has become standard practice on recent SAMSUNG flagships.

Colors for the Fold 8 are Graphite, Cream, Lavender, and a direct-sales exclusive Pistachio. The Fold 8 Ultra is listed in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow, and a direct-sales exclusive Green Shadow.

A 200-euro gap, and what it might mean in Japan

German pricing is reported at 1,999 euros (about 370,000 yen) for the Fold 8 and 2,199 euros (about 400,000 yen) for the Fold 8 Ultra. A 200-euro (about 37,000 yen) premium is modest given the larger display and the added telephoto camera.

※1 EUR = 183 JPY (as of July 20, 2026)

In Japan, the current Galaxy Z Fold7 in its 256GB configuration sells for 265,750 yen. With European pricing for the standard model holding roughly level with the previous generation, Japanese pricing for the Fold 8 may not move much either. That said, local pricing depends on exchange rates, import costs, and SAMSUNG's own strategy, so applying the European delta directly would be premature.

Reading pre-announcement information

Everything above is pre-announcement information. There is no guarantee the leaked spec sheet matches shipping hardware, and last-minute changes or region-specific configurations are common. Japanese availability, timing, and local pricing are the items where this kind of leak tends to be least reliable.

Splitting the lineup with an Ultra badge is itself a new move for SAMSUNG's foldables. Drawing the line at the telephoto camera and screen size keeps it consistent with how the Ultra name works in other Galaxy series. How SAMSUNG positions it in practice will become clear on the day.

Summary

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to pair a 7.6-inch main display with a dual 50MP camera system, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra reportedly combines an 8-inch main display with a triple camera setup topped by a 200MP sensor. Both are expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, separated by 200 euros in Germany. The answers arrive at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22.
