AYANEO has released the Pocket MICRO 2, a compact horizontal retro gaming handheld. It pairs a 3.5-inch LCD with a custom processor on par with the Snapdragon 865, delivering a major performance boost over the previous model. The 6GB + 128GB model starts at $239 (about 38,000 yen), and the first batch sold out shortly after launch. Despite its palm-sized body, the device is designed to run Game Boy Advance-era classics beautifully.
A New Snapdragon 865-Class Processor Boosts Performance Significantly
At its core, the Pocket MICRO 2 uses a custom processor equivalent to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865. AYANEO has not disclosed the exact chip name, but says performance is roughly 220 percent higher than the original Pocket MICRO, which ran on a Helio G99.
To handle more demanding workloads with headroom, the battery capacity has grown from 2,600mAh to 3,950mAh, an increase of about 52 percent. The device also packs an active cooling system to suppress heat and sustain performance. It runs on Android, and game management and settings are handled through AYANEO's AyaSpace software.
A 3.5-inch Display Optimized for Game Boy Advance
The display is a 3.5-inch LCD with a 960 x 640 resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. This ratio and resolution are clearly aimed at Game Boy Advance (GBA) emulation.
Because a GBA screen can be shown at an exact 4x integer scale, images are enlarged crisply without stretching or black bars on the top, bottom, or sides. It is a thoughtful design for anyone who wants to enjoy retro games exactly as they originally looked.
Refined Controls, Expandability, and Connectivity
The body uses a CNC-machined metal middle frame, measures 162 x 67.8 x 18 mm, and weighs about 248g. The controls have been reworked: the D-pad and ABXY buttons are larger. The analog sticks use wear-resistant TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) technology and are recessed into the body to balance input precision with portability. The shoulder buttons split L1/L2 and R1/R2 into a staggered structure so they can be told apart by feel alone.
For connectivity, it has a USB-C 3.1 port that supports data transfer and USB PD fast charging. Storage can be expanded via a microSD card slot, and wireless options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, along with a retained 3.5mm headphone jack.
Pricing and Availability

The initial run was limited in quantity and sold out shortly after release. Since AYANEO's devices are typically sold in small batches on a first-come basis, it is worth keeping an eye on restock news if you are hoping to buy one.
