Apple announced a new iPad Pro on March 18, 2020 (Japan time) (Apple official). Pre-orders are already open and the model can be purchased online. The release date is set for March 25.
Pricing for the 11-inch entry-level configuration starts at 84,800 yen (excluding tax, about 770 USD).
The minimum storage capacity is now 128GB — there's no 64GB model. The processor is the A12Z Bionic chip. You might have expected an A13X, but the numbering stays at 12, so this looks like a minor refresh of the A12X. The performance comparison will be interesting to see.
The new camera isn't a triple camera setup — it's a dual camera, just like the iPhone 11. That means wide-angle shots will now be possible on iPad Pro as well. The round element on the right side appears to be the LiDAR scanner, a sensor for AR.
The new Magic Keyboard, surprisingly, comes with a built-in trackpad, giving the device a laptop-like form factor.
The size feels reminiscent of the now-discontinued 12-inch MacBook. The new Magic Keyboard is scheduled for release in May. For people who do a lot of typing, the Magic Keyboard looks like a solid recommendation. (It's a little disappointing that the four corners of the device are left exposed and not protected at all, though.)
