Acer Unveils the Sospiro A15, a Phone With a 1.88-Inch Rear Screen That Doubles as a Selfie Viewfinder

Acer Mobile LATAM has introduced the Sospiro A15, an Android smartphone with a secondary display built into its rear camera housing. The small panel handles notifications, music controls, and even serves as a viewfinder when you shoot selfies with the rear camera. The phone is headed to three markets: Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala.

A 1.88-Inch Second Screen Next to the Cameras

The defining feature of the Sospiro A15 is the 1.88-inch display tucked inside the rear camera module. It is a TFT panel running at 240×284. From there you can read notifications, accept or reject incoming calls, control music playback, and check the battery level.

The most immediately useful application is selfies. With the 64-megapixel rear camera pointed at yourself, the rear screen shows the framing so you can compose the shot before pressing the shutter. You get the higher-resolution camera and still see what you are doing. Rear-mounted secondary screens have started appearing on flagship phones, so the notable part here is that the idea has landed on a budget device.

Modest Internals, and No 5G

The main display is a 6.67-inch HD+ (720×1600) IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate. The chipset is a UNISOC T615, an octa-core part clocked up to 1.8GHz, and connectivity tops out at 4G LTE. There is no 5G support, though VoLTE and ViLTE are both available.

Memory is 6GB, and an additional 8GB of virtual memory carved out of storage brings the effective total to 14GB. Internal storage is 128GB, expandable to 1TB via microSDXC. The dual rear camera setup includes a 64-megapixel sensor, with a 16-megapixel camera on the front.

The 5,000mAh battery supports 18W charging over USB Type-C. The phone also carries NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and face unlock, with IP64 dust and splash resistance. It ships with Android 16.

The body measures 165.95mm tall, 77.1mm wide, and 8.35mm thick, and weighs 206g. Two colors are offered: blue and orange.

The Acer Name Returns to Phones

Acer is better known for laptops and monitors, and it has kept its distance from smartphones for some time. The Sospiro A15 carries the Acer name and is aimed at Latin America, but it is not an Acer-built product: the Acer trademark is licensed by Acer Incorporated to Senwa Global International S.A. de C.V., which handles the phones in the region. Sospiro is the series name that brand has used for its phones there.

On paper, both the chipset and the network support sit firmly in entry-level territory. What keeps the device from blending into that crowd is the single unusual addition on the back. Pricing and a firm release date were not disclosed at announcement.
