LY Corporation's AI agent Agent i has gained a task feature that keeps following whatever you register and reports back on its own. It is an attempt to shift a conversational AI that only answered questions toward something that keeps working while you say nothing. The feature went live on September 11, 2026, covering three targets at launch: keyword tracking, product price drops, and event listings.
From an AI That Answers to an AI That Keeps Moving
Agent i launched in April 2026 as a single brand combining the AI Assistant from Yahoo! JAPAN with LINE AI from LINE. Until now its basic shape was a set of domain-specific agents, such as shopping and outings, that organized information and handed back an answer when asked.
The easiest way to understand this addition is as a time axis bolted onto that shape. Previously, every time you wanted to know something, you had to send the question yourself. With the task feature you register once, the AI moves on the schedule you set, and only the result reaches you. LY Corporation frames this as a move from an AI that answers to an AI that acts.
Results appear on the Agent i home screen and also arrive as push notifications in the Yahoo! JAPAN app and the LINE app. Using apps people already open daily as the delivery channel is practical, since it avoids adding one more dedicated app to the home screen.
The Three Tasks You Can Register
Three task types are available at launch: keyword registration, product price drop alerts, and event notifications.
Keyword registration lets you specify a term you want to follow, after which the AI repeatedly checks for related updates and delivers them. The subject can be an industry trend you need for work or news about a particular company or celebrity. Execution frequency can be set to daily or weekly, down to the day of the week and the time.
Price drop alerts are handled by the shopping agent. Register a product you are still deciding on, and at the timing you choose the agent checks prices across multiple e-commerce sites and notifies you when the listed price falls below your registration-time baseline by the amount you set. One point worth keeping in mind: the notification fires only once when the condition is met, and price tracking for that product ends there. It is not built for waiting out the absolute lowest price, so it is safer to treat it as a single signal that it may be time to buy.
Event notifications come from the outings agent. Set a prefecture and you receive upcoming events there every week. You can also specify the context, such as with children, alone, on a date, or with friends, which filters out candidates that do not fit. For anyone who searches weekend plans from scratch every time, the saved effort translates directly.
One Tap to Register, and Editable Later
The interaction design is deliberately kept simple. Agent i may propose a task in the middle of a chat, and registering it there takes a single tap. You can also register from the home screen yourself, and registered tasks can be edited or deleted from My Page.
That path, turning something suggested mid-conversation into a standing task, looks unassuming but may be the critical piece. Automation features often go unused simply because nobody reaches the settings screen. Placing the register button on the natural extension of a conversation lowers that first step.
Requirements and Caveats
The task feature works in the Yahoo! JAPAN app, the LINE app, and the smartphone browser version of Yahoo! JAPAN. There are version requirements: the Yahoo! JAPAN app needs iOS 4.132.0 or later, or Android 3.187.0 or later. Using it from Yahoo services requires signing in with a Yahoo! JAPAN ID. There is also an age note, stating that people under 13 should refrain from using it.
On the technical side, the company discloses that the feature runs on Google's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform or on OpenAI's API. It is a configuration that combines external foundations rather than relying on a single in-house model, and it comes with the caveat that the reliability and accuracy of generative AI output are not guaranteed. For money-related uses such as price drop alerts, it is wise to keep the habit of checking the price yourself after the notification arrives.
Reservations and Purchases Come Next
LY Corporation has signaled that it will expand beyond information gathering into areas such as making restaurant reservations and buying products. Collecting information and reporting it is a domain where mistakes cause little real damage. Reservations and payments are different: an error by the AI leads directly to cancellation work or financial loss.
In that sense, this task feature sits in the stage just before that, building up usability and trust. The company says the range of registrable tasks will grow over time, so watching which types arrive first should reveal how far it intends to let the AI go.
Summary
Agent i's task feature has the AI continuously gather and deliver information across three areas: keyword tracking, product price drops, and event listings. It became available on September 11, 2026, with results delivered through push notifications in the Yahoo! JAPAN app and the LINE app. There are small limits, such as price drop alerts firing only once, but this is an update worth noting as a first step from an AI that waits to be asked toward one that keeps moving on its own.
