On September 8, 2026, Sony announced two new wireless headphone models, the WH-CH730N and the WH-CH530, both arriving in stores on September 18. Both models mark a generational update to long-running product lines. The higher-end model gains a new foldable design on top of its noise-cancelling feature, improving portability, while the entry-level model gets a longer battery life along with refined call quality and safety features.

The WH-CH730N Brings a New Foldable Design

The WH-CH730N succeeds the noise-cancelling WH-CH720N. Its biggest change is the addition of a folding mechanism, something the series previously lacked, letting the headphones collapse into a more compact shape for easier carrying during commutes.

The noise-cancelling system has also been redesigned around dual noise sensors, with attention paid to reducing wind noise. Battery life extends to up to about 50 hours with noise cancelling on, and up to about 75 hours with it off, and the headphones support quick charging that delivers about an hour of playback from just 3 minutes of charging. On the audio side, the equalizer has been expanded from 5 bands to 10 bands, with a gaming EQ preset also available through the app, alongside DSEE upscaling for compressed audio and an AI-assisted feature that makes voices easier to hear during calls. The WH-CH730N comes in five colors: black, white, blue, beige, and pink. Pricing is open, with street prices expected to land around 22,000 yen (tax included).

The WH-CH530 Focuses on Battery Life and Safety Features

The WH-CH530, which lacks noise cancelling, succeeds the WH-CH520. It keeps the series' lightweight, compact design while extending battery life to up to about 55 hours. It also supports quick charging, adding about 1.5 hours of playback from a 3-minute charge.

Like its sibling, it offers a 10-band equalizer with a gaming preset, and an AI-based noise suppression feature keeps the wearer's voice clear during calls. With use by children in mind, Sony added a maximum volume limit and a Safe Listening mode that looks out for hearing health. The WH-CH530 comes in six colors: black, white, mint, pink, coral, and cobalt. It's also open-priced, with a street price expected around 7,700 yen (tax included).

Shared Connectivity Features

Both models support Bluetooth LE Audio for low-latency, high-quality audio transmission, as well as multipoint connection to two devices at once. Pre-orders opened alongside the announcement on September 8, and both models share the same September 18 release date.

Summary

Sony's newly announced WH-CH730N and WH-CH530 represent solid, incremental updates to two of its long-running headphone lines. The higher-end model introduces foldability for the first time while boosting noise cancellation and battery life, and the entry-level model improves battery life and adds new safety features. Once both go on sale September 18, it will be worth watching which of the two price points proves more popular with buyers.
