NEC Personal Computers released the LAVIE Tab T12, an Android tablet with a 12.1-inch display, on July 30, 2026. The model number is TAB12/Q01, and it is a web-exclusive configuration sold only through NEC Direct. The direct price is 64,790 yen including tax. By dropping the pen and keyboard that ship with the similarly sized LAVIE Tab T12N and trimming memory and storage, NEC has brought a large-screen tablet down into the 60,000-yen range.
12.1 inches at roughly 530g, in a B5 footprint
The display is a 12.1-inch wide LCD with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 and support for a 90Hz refresh rate. Brightness is rated at up to 600 nits under normal conditions and up to 800 nits at peak, which NEC describes as enough to stay readable next to a sunlit window or outdoors. The panel supports 10-point touch and meets Widevine L1, the requirement that video streaming services check before serving higher-quality playback.
The tablet weighs about 530g and measures about 6.3mm thick. A 12.1-inch screen is comfortable when the device stays on a desk, but weight and thickness become the deciding factors once you carry it around. NEC says the body fits into roughly a B5 sheet of paper, and the numbers do place it on the lighter side of this screen class.
Audio comes from a four-speaker array with Dolby Atmos support, and LDAC is available for wireless listening. The battery holds 10,200mAh, rated at about 12 hours of video playback and about 13 hours of web browsing. A larger screen draws more power, so NEC has answered with capacity.
A Dimensity 6400 inside, with memory and storage kept modest
The processor is MediaTek's Dimensity 6400, an octa-core chip built on a 6nm process. It is not a part that competes on raw performance. The target is web browsing, video, eBooks, and reading documents.
Memory is 8GB of LPDDR4X and storage is 128GB, expandable via microSD. The operating system is Android 16. The front camera is roughly 8MP and supports face unlock, while the rear camera is roughly 13MP with autofocus. Wireless is Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, so Wi-Fi 6 and later are not supported. Cloud Gray is the only color.
This is where the trade for price shows most clearly. Staying a generation behind on Wi-Fi will matter to anyone chasing throughput in a congested environment. On the other hand, it is a compromise that has little bearing on the large screen and low weight that the tablet is actually built around.
What separates it from the T12N: bundled accessories, memory, and storage
The LAVIE Tab T12N, also 12.1 inches, launched on February 12, 2026 as a spring model. It bundles a digital pen and a keyboard cover, and carries 12GB of memory with roughly 256GB of storage. Its panel specification, the Dimensity 6400 inside, and the 530g and 6.3mm dimensions are shared with the T12.
In other words, the T12 is the T12N with the accessories and capacity removed to lower the price. The pen is sold separately as Digital Pen 3 (PC-AC-AD042C), offering 4,096 pressure levels along with tilt detection and palm rejection. If handwriting is the main purpose, the cost of the pen has to be added on top, and once it is, the gap with the T12N narrows. Conversely, for someone focused on video and eBooks who will not write by hand, the T12 keeps the initial outlay lower.
What is usable out of the box
Nebo, a handwriting app, comes preinstalled and converts pen strokes, including formulas, into text and clean shapes. NEC provides it free for the life of the device. Google's Circle to Search is supported as well, so drawing a circle around something on screen with a finger or pen sends it straight to a search. For documents, WPS Office is included and is compatible with Microsoft Office files.
The Tsunagaru! LAVIE feature set for working alongside a PC is also available. On the same network, files, text, and URLs can be passed between the tablet and a PC, and the tablet can serve as a second monitor for that PC. For anyone who already owns a LAVIE PC, that link is a reason to stay within the same brand.

Summary
The LAVIE Tab T12 packs a 12.1-inch 2.5K display and a 10,200mAh battery into a body of about 530g and 6.3mm, sold exclusively through NEC Direct. The 8GB of memory, 128GB of storage, and Wi-Fi 5 are conspicuous compromises, but they hold up against a price of 64,790 yen. If a pen and keyboard are required, the step up to the T12N makes sense; if the priority is a large, light screen for video and reading, the T12 is the one to take.
