Logicool, the Japanese arm of Logitech International, released the G316 X 98 wired mechanical gaming keyboard on July 16, 2026 under its Logitech G brand. Pricing is open, with the Logicool online store listing it at 19,580 yen including tax. An 8,000Hz wired polling rate, hot-swappable mechanical switches and a gasket mount with a damping layer have all moved down into a keyboard that stays under 20,000 yen.
What 8,000Hz Actually Buys You
Polling rate is how often a keyboard reports its input state to the PC. Most wired keyboards run at 1,000Hz, meaning 1,000 reports per second. The G316 X 98 supports up to 8,000Hz, eight times that figure, shortening the interval between reports from 1 millisecond to 0.125 milliseconds.
How much of that a player feels is debatable, but in genres such as FPS and action games, where the exact moment a key goes down decides the outcome, it clearly pushes input latency in the right direction. Logitech G leads with responsiveness in situations that demand instant input. Few entry-level keyboards advertise this number, which makes it one of the more interesting lines on the spec sheet.
Gasket Mount and Hot-Swap
The typing hardware is unusually considered for the price. A gasket mount suspends the keyboard plate on cushioning material instead of screwing it directly to the chassis, so vibration transfers less readily and hard resonant noise is reduced. The G316 X 98 pairs that with a damping layer, aiming for quiet operation and a softer feel at the same time.
The switches are linear mechanical units with a 40g actuation force, 3.5mm travel and a 1.9mm actuation point. Linear switches, which give no tactile bump partway through the press, suit repeated rapid inputs in games.
On top of that, hot-swap support means switches can be replaced without soldering. If you change the genre you play, or your preference in typing sound shifts, you do not have to replace the whole keyboard. Analog switches are not supported, so replacements are limited to digital-actuation types.
The Dot-Matrix Display
The most distinctive external feature is the dot-style LED display built into the body. Dot-matrix is the classic method of forming characters and shapes from a grid of points, and here it shows status information directly on the keyboard. There is a practical side, letting you check profile switches and settings without moving your eyes to the monitor, and a purely playful side in the retro look itself.
Lighting is handled by Logitech G's own LIGHTSYNC RGB. With the Logicool G HUB software installed, you can set colors per key, build animation effects, and synchronize lighting across other compatible Logitech G devices.
Specifications and Telling the Models Apart
The body measures 384mm wide, 140mm deep and 40mm tall, and weighs 880g. The layout is a space-saving Japanese key arrangement, and the cable runs 180cm. Connection is wired data mode over USB-A only, with no wireless option. It requires Windows 10 or later, or macOS 12 or later.
There are two colors but four model numbers. G316X-98-LNBK and G316X-98-LNWH carry a two-year warranty, while the d-suffixed G316X-98-LNBKd and G316X-98-LNWHd carry one year. The hardware looks identical, so it is worth checking the suffix at purchase.
The keyboard was announced on June 25, 2026, and the same announcement covered the G304 X SUPERLIGHT LIGHTSPEED wireless mouse, roughly 40g lighter than its predecessor and fitted with a HERO 44k sensor. It shares the July 16 release date, as part of a broader refresh of the entry-level input device range.
Summary
The G316 X 98 packages an 8,000Hz polling rate, hot-swap sockets and a damped gasket mount into a 19,580 yen wired gaming keyboard. Wireless and analog switches are left out, with the budget instead directed at typing feel, customization and response speed, the qualities that matter over years of use. The space-saving Japanese layout makes it a reasonable fit as either a first keyboard or a replacement.
