Elecom has announced that two of its products — the "DE-C86-10000" series, which uses a semi-solid lithium-ion battery, and the "DE-C78L-10000" series, which features haptic feedback — have received category awards at VGP2026 SUMMER, one of Japan's largest comprehensive awards for audiovisual equipment[1]. Both were recognized in the Mobile Battery (10,000mAh to under 20,000mAh) category of the Lifestyle Division, with one model built around battery safety and another designed to be used without looking at it.

What the products won at VGP2026 SUMMER

VGP is one of Japan's largest comprehensive awards for audiovisual equipment, first held in 1987[1]. A panel of 10 critics active in specialist magazines and other media, together with around 30 leading retailers across Japan, takes part in the voting, and products are judged across a wide range that spans televisions and audio equipment through to smartphones and wearable devices[1].

This time, Elecom received category awards in the Mobile Battery (10,000mAh to under 20,000mAh) category of the Lifestyle Division for two products: the "DE-C86-10000," which carries a semi-solid lithium-ion battery, and the "DE-C78L-10000," which features haptic feedback[1]. Although both are mobile batteries in the same capacity class, they were recognized for technical strengths that point in different directions.

"DE-C86-10000," built around safety and a long lifespan

The "DE-C86-10000" is a 10,000mAh mobile battery that is the first Elecom product to use a semi-solid lithium-ion battery, and it has been on sale in stages since March 2026[2][3]. In a semi-solid battery, the electrolyte — previously a liquid — is turned into a gel, which reduces the amount of flammable organic electrolyte that is considered one cause of fire accidents and suppresses the generation and release of flammable gas in the event of an internal short circuit[3]. As a result, its main strength is a high level of safety that makes it less prone to catching fire[3].

There is also a difference in lifespan. The charge-discharge cycle life of a mobile battery using a typical lithium-ion battery is around 500 cycles, whereas this product claims around 2,000 cycles, about four times the conventional figure[3]. Its usable temperature range is wider as well: against the conventional 0°C to 40°C, this product supports -15°C to 45°C, so Elecom says it is easy to use even in extreme heat or cold[3].

In terms of features, in addition to checking the remaining battery level in 1% increments on an LED panel, it is the first Elecom product to include a "Health Monitor" function that diagnoses the battery's condition from the number of charge-discharge cycles and indicates the timing for replacement through the color of an LED[3]. A single USB Type-C port supports output of up to 35W (up to 33W with PPS), so it can charge not only smartphones and tablets but also laptops such as the MacBook Air[2]. With two USB Type-C ports and one USB-A port, it also supports charging up to three devices at the same time[2]. It incorporates Thermal Protection and five protective functions, and meets the technical standards of Japan's Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act (PSE)[3]. It weighs about 220g, costs 8,480 yen (estimated street price, tax included), and comes in four colors: black, blue, pink, and white[3].

"DE-C78L-10000," usable without looking

The other model, the "DE-C78L-10000," is Elecom's first inclusive design product, co-created with people who have visual impairments, and it went on sale in November 2025[4][5]. Its biggest feature is a haptic feedback function that conveys the remaining battery level and charging status through vibration of the unit itself[5]. Pressing the button on the side makes the unit vibrate and indicates the remaining level in five stages, so you can check the level just by touch even while it is in a bag or a pocket[5]. It also uses fine vibrations to notify you when charging is not taking place even though a cable is connected[5].

The shape of the body is also carefully considered. The area around the button has a textured finish so its position can be identified by touch, and the body is given an asymmetrical shape so users can intuitively remember where each USB port is located[4][5]. It has one USB-A port and one USB Type-C port, and the USB-A port is a reversible type that works regardless of orientation[4]. Its capacity is 10,000mAh, and the USB Type-C port supports output of up to 20W[4]. The price is open (set by retailers), and it comes in two variants: black and a white-based model called "Shiro-chan"[4][5].

Summary

Elecom's "DE-C86-10000" and "DE-C78L-10000" won category awards in the Mobile Battery (10,000mAh to under 20,000mAh) category of VGP2026 SUMMER. The defining point this time is that two products taking different approaches were recognized together: one that raises safety and lifespan with a semi-solid lithium-ion battery, and one with an inclusive design that can be used without relying on sight thanks to haptic feedback through vibration. They look like options worth considering for, respectively, people who prioritize safety and longevity and people who want operation that is simple and clear.
