ELECOM released the AD-C2HDMIBK, a video conversion adapter that sends output from a single USB Type-C port to two HDMI displays, in late July[1]. Combined with a laptop's built-in panel, it enables a three-screen setup, and both external displays can run at 4K/60Hz. The cable measures roughly 12cm, aiming at users who want extra screens while on the move. The street price is 5,980 yen including tax[1].

Two external screens from one Type-C port

The AD-C2HDMIBK carries a USB Type-C plug on one end and two HDMI ports (Type A, 19-pin) on the other[2]. It passes video and audio signals from a Type-C equipped PC or smartphone to HDMI displays, supporting both mirrored and extended modes[1].

Because it can feed up to two displays from the source device, the total reaches three screens once the computer's own panel is counted[3]. ELECOM cites remote work with a video call and reference documents side by side, and tasks that require comparing several documents at once, as the intended scenarios[3].

There are conditions, however. The source device must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode, the standard that carries video over USB Type-C, and incompatible machines will show nothing[1]. ELECOM also notes that extended mode may not work correctly outside Windows[1]. Some smartphones and tablets do not support screen extension at all and may be limited to mirroring[1]. The number of displays and the mirror/extend behavior depend on the host computer's specifications, so it is worth checking your hardware before buying.

4K/60Hz on both outputs, with HDCP 2.3 support

Each of the two connected displays supports up to 4K (3,840 x 2,160px) at 60Hz[1]. Maximum transfer speed is 18Gbps in theory[2]. Refresh rates above 60Hz are not guaranteed, so this is a product for office work and video viewing on larger screens rather than high-refresh gaming.

For content protection, the adapter supports HDCP 2.3, HDCP 2.2 and HDCP 1.4[1]. HDCP determines whether streaming services will play at all, and covering the latest HDCP 2.3 is reassuring in practice. Audio output is supported as well, so sound can come from the display's speakers[1].

On signal quality, the housing uses a metal shell structure that resists external noise, the cable is triple shielded, and the connector pins are gold plated to limit signal degradation[1]. It is an active type with a built-in IC and needs no driver installation[1]. HDMI cables are not included and must be prepared separately[1].

A 12cm cable built for portability

The adapter body measures roughly 55mm wide, 11.5mm thick and 50mm tall, with a cable length of about 12cm excluding the connector and a cable diameter of about 4.2mm[2]. It comes in black only, with JAN code 4549550446549[2].

A 12cm cable gives the product a very different character from a desk-bound docking station. Rather than tidying a permanent workstation, the dimensions suit tossing the adapter into a bag with a laptop and plugging into whatever display is available on site. There is no USB Power Delivery pass-through port and no USB hub function, so anyone who needs to charge while connected or wants wired Ethernet should look at a docking station instead.

On the environmental side, the product complies with the EU RoHS Directive on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment across 10 substances and carries ELECOM's own THINK ECOLOGY certification[1]. The packaging uses only paper, cardboard and poly bags, and cuts plastic weight by more than 20 percent compared with the company's internal baseline products[1].

Pricing and where to buy

The press release lists a street price of 5,980 yen including tax, or 5,436 yen before tax[1]. ELECOM's official product page shows a list price of 7,975 yen including tax and 7,250 yen before tax[2], which differs from the actual selling price. The company's own ELECOM Direct Shop sells it for 5,980 yen including tax[4].

Besides the official direct shop, ELECOM points buyers to Biccamera.com, Yodobashi.com, and its official stores on Rakuten Ichiba and Yahoo! Shopping[1].

Summary

The AD-C2HDMIBK is a video conversion adapter that drives two HDMI displays from a single USB Type-C port, reaching three screens when the computer's own display is counted. Both outputs handle 4K/60Hz, and the adapter covers HDCP 2.3, audio output and driver-free operation. On the other hand, DisplayPort Alternate Mode support is a prerequisite, and extended mode may not behave correctly outside Windows, which is worth confirming before purchase. The street price is 5,980 yen including tax, and the product has been on sale since late July.
