On May 7, 2026, Discord launched a "Rust Shop" that lets players browse and buy official items from the survival game Rust directly inside Discord. To mark the launch, a Discord-only two-week sale runs through Thursday, May 21, taking 20% off eligible items[1][2]. The shop also supports gifting and wishlists, extending Discord's in-game commerce features to a new title[1][3].

Buying official Rust items inside Discord

The new Rust Shop lets you browse and purchase official items for Rust without leaving the Discord app. Discord's announcement says that, starting today, you can browse, purchase, gift and wishlist Rust items directly inside Discord[1].

Rust is a large-scale multiplayer survival game operated by Facepunch Studios, with a steady stream of official cosmetics for weapons, outfits and tools. Sales used to flow primarily through Steam's Item Store, but the new sales channel — which now completes entirely inside Discord — brings purchasing and communication into the same screen, including gifting items to friends and sharing wishlists in chat[1][3].

Items bought through the shop reach the game through the Discord-Steam account-linking system[3]. Discord positions this launch as a way to bring "convenience and a discount at the same time" to Rust's active community[1][2].

A 20% Discord-only launch sale through May 21

To celebrate the launch, the Rust Shop is running a Discord-only sale. According to Facepunch Studios, all Steam Item Store DLC released before 2026 is 20% off when purchased through the Rust Shop on Discord, from Thursday, May 7 through Thursday, May 21[2].

The studio's COO, Alistair McFarlane, told PCGamesN that he is excited to pair the new convenience with a "massive catalog discount" to kick things off, signalling that the launch discount is meant to drive demand[2]. As an example, an item normally priced at $10 (about 1,560 yen) becomes $8 (about 1,248 yen) after the 20% discount, while a $5 item becomes $4 (about 624 yen)※Calculated at 1 USD = 156 JPY. Rust's Steam Item Store has historically sold rifle and hatchet skins in the low single-digit to low-teens dollars range, so this is a good window for veteran players to fill out collections they had previously skipped[2].

When the sale ends, prices return to normal, but the shop itself stays open and continues to operate through the Discord-Steam connection[1][2].

Discord's in-game commerce expands, with Rust as the next title

Discord first rolled out its in-game commerce experience in December 2025 with Marvel Rivals as its first launch partner. The system lets players discover, buy and gift items inside Discord — invoked from official community servers, chat or a friend's wishlist[3][4].

Earlier this year Discord said it would open this Social Commerce program to additional partners by invitation, and Rust is a flagship example of that expansion[3][4]. In Marvel Rivals' early run, Discord reported that 41% of purchases were gifts and that 25% of gift buyers were lapsed or non-players, suggesting that buying inside Discord works well as a way to send something to a friend[4]. With both gifting and wishlists available on day one, sending a Rust skin to a server-mate at the start of a new wipe becomes a realistic flow[1][3].

Alongside the shop launch, Facepunch shipped Rust's monthly "Upgrade Hard, Raid Harder" update on the same day, May 7, adding new workbench upgrades, mortars and a refreshed vending-machine UI[2]. Pairing the gameplay update with the shop launch is meant to lift both in-game activity and purchasing momentum at once[2].

Summary

With the Rust Shop launch and a 20% off sale, Discord is opening up Rust's item purchase flow — previously confined to Steam — into the community-chat side of the experience. Because gifting and wishlists live on the same screen as the conversation, communication and commerce sit on a continuum. As the next case after Marvel Rivals, this rollout is worth watching for what it signals about Discord's pace of expansion into other live-service titles.
