Anthropic has rebuilt how Claude is laid out. Chat and Cowork, until now separate destinations, are collapsing into a single entry point, and two beta tools arrive with the change: Claude Docs for written documents and Claude Slides for presentations. It is a direct answer to users who were unsure which tab to open for a given task.
No More Choosing a Tab
The heart of this update is not a longer feature list but a single front door. Chat, Cowork, and Artifacts, the interactive workspace where output gets assembled, now live in the same window, so there is no need to switch tabs by task type.
Anthropic says that before the merge, deciding which tab suited which job had itself become a burden. Under the new design, Claude reads the request and picks the tool. A quick question gets answered on the spot; heavier work such as research, reports, spreadsheets, or presentations comes back as an editable file.
Claude Design, released in April for website and prototype visuals, can also be invoked from anywhere inside Claude rather than from a dedicated corner of the app. It is a deliberate check on the pattern where every new capability spawns another tab.
Claude Docs Is Built Around Collaborative Editing
What sets Claude Docs apart is that it does not stop at producing text. Claude drafts sections, asks questions about the content, comments on structural and stylistic choices, and revises on request. It inserts itself into the read-and-fix loop rather than handing over a finished block.
Several people can work in the same document at the same time. Finished documents export to Google Docs or Microsoft Word, so a house style or template requirement does not become a dead end.
Documents and decks can be shared with a link and edited from a phone. Not having to be back at a desk before touching anything matters more in practice than it sounds.
Claude Slides Exports to PowerPoint and PDF
With Claude Slides, users can commission a deck and then adjust individual slides afterward. Presenting directly from Claude is supported, and the deck can be downloaded as a PowerPoint file or a PDF.
Spreadsheets come back with working formulas intact. The stated direction is clear: rather than keeping everything inside a chat window, the output is meant to land in the office software people already use. Read another way, it is AI reaching into territory Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace have long held.
Start on Desktop, Continue on Mobile
Handoff has been tidied up as well. A document can be commissioned on a computer and its progress checked from the mobile app while away from the desk. Cowork was designed as the place to hand long-running work to Claude, and that character carries into the merged environment.
The update follows an earlier improvement to Cowork's memory layer, which lets Claude retain a user's context across conversations. Unifying the front end sits on top of that groundwork.
Availability and Rollout
The merged interface and the new tools reach the paid Pro and Max plans first, on web, desktop, and mobile, over the coming weeks. Free and Team plans follow later. Claude Docs, Claude Slides, and Claude Design are all positioned as beta features for paid plans.
Because the rollout is staged, the screen will not change immediately for every plan. Teams planning to rewrite internal procedures around the merged interface are better off waiting until it has reached everyone.
