Stability AI has added two new ways to work with its Stable Audio 3.0 music generation model. One is a plugin that creates sound directly inside a DAW, and the other is a rebuilt web app aimed at refining a track after the first take. Both are in beta, and the company says generated output is cleared for commercial use.

Generated Audio Lands Straight on the Track

The new Stable Audio plugin behaves like an instrument inside a DAW. In Ableton Live it sits under PlugIns on an Instrument track, and in Logic Pro it goes into the Instrument slot. Whatever is generated appears on that track, so it can be arranged, processed, and cut alongside everything else in the session.

Until now, working with generative audio meant exporting a file from a browser, downloading it, and importing it back into a DAW. Removing that round trip sounds minor, but it is the kind of friction that adds up over a working session.

The plugin also tries to fit the session it lives in. Sync it to the project BPM and generations land in tempo. Length is adjustable from a short section up to a full six-minute song, and multiple takes can be saved to a playlist for comparison.

It ships as a macOS AU and VST3 with support for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and is listed as compatible with major DAWs including Logic Pro and Ableton Live.

The Web App Moves From One-Shot to Iteration

The second change is on StableAudio.com. The updated web app is built around getting a first take out with a prompt, then reshaping it rather than starting over.

Direction can be given in plain language: less low end, a later build, different instrumentation. There is also audio-to-audio, which takes something that already exists and pushes it toward a different genre, mood, or variation.

Output is no longer a single stereo bounce either. Individual parts can be mixed with level, pan, mute, and solo, with per-track effects and master effects on top. Selected parts can be bounced on their own, or the full mix exported, and track length can be extended.

The point of all of this is to keep a session alive. Instead of regenerating from scratch when a take is close but not right, the work continues inside the same project.

Commercial Use, and the Beta Caveat

Both the plugin and the web app run on what Stability AI describes as commercially-safe models. Users own their outputs and can distribute them freely. In music generation, where the provenance of training data is a recurring concern, an explicit statement on that point carries practical weight.

That said, both are early betas. Some features are experimental, and the company says it will keep iterating in real time. Anyone considering these tools for production work should test export quality and stability in their own setup first.

Summary

Stability AI has released a DAW plugin for Stable Audio 3.0 alongside a web app with expanded editing. The plugin loads as a macOS AU or VST3 in the instrument slot of Logic Pro or Ableton Live, syncs to session BPM, generates up to six minutes, and stores multiple takes for comparison. The web app adds natural-language revisions, audio-to-audio, per-track mixing, and selective export, shifting generation from a single roll of the dice into an actual part of the workflow.
