ASUS JAPAN has released the Zenbook SORA 16 (UX3607OA), a 16-inch mobile laptop that pairs an OLED display with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor, on July 3. The new lineup adds a configuration with 24GB of memory, offered in two models depending on whether Office is bundled. At roughly 1.2kg, it is a slim and light machine that stays portable despite its 16-inch screen.
80 TOPS of On-Device AI with Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme
At its core is Qualcomm's Arm-based Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme X2E-94-100. A key feature is its built-in NPU (Neural Processing Unit), a component dedicated to AI workloads. It delivers up to 80 TOPS (80 trillion operations per second), so tasks such as image generation and transcription can run on the device itself rather than relying on the cloud.
Microsoft's Copilot+ PC category for AI computers requires an NPU rated at 40 TOPS or higher. This machine offers double that, so it can make full use of Copilot+ PC AI features. Memory is 24GB (onboard), storage is a 512GB SSD (PCI Express 4.0 x4 NVMe/M.2), and it ships with Windows 11 Home preinstalled.
A 16-inch OLED at 2880×1800 and 120Hz, with Wide Color
The screen is a 16-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2880×1800 and a 120Hz refresh rate. Its 16:10 aspect ratio is taller than usual, which makes it easier to show documents and long passages of text.
It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space used in video production and supports DisplayHDR True Black for deep, well-controlled blacks. It also carries TUV Rheinland flicker-free and low-blue-light certifications, helping to reduce eye strain during long sessions. The surface is a glare (glossy) type.
An Approximately 1.2kg Body Built from Ceraluminum
The chassis measures 353.5 (W) × 242.4 (D) × 13.8–16.5 (H) mm and weighs about 1.2kg. That is light for a 16-inch laptop, and the thinnest point is under 14mm.
The lid, keyboard deck, and base use ASUS's proprietary Ceraluminum, a material that combines aluminum and ceramic. It improves resistance to wear, scratches, and impact while remaining recyclable. The laptop has also passed several tests based on the U.S. Department of Defense's MIL-STD 810H military standard, adding peace of mind for travel. An EasyLift hinge lets you open the lid with a single fingertip, and the body comes in a calm Zabriskie Beige finish.
Plenty of Ports, and Around 12 Hours of Video Playback
For connectivity, it offers two USB4 (Type-C) ports with video output and Power Delivery, plus one each of USB 3.2 (Type-A, Gen2), HDMI, an SD card reader, and a headphone/headset combo jack. Wireless support covers the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Battery life, measured under JEITA 3.0, is about 12.1 hours for video playback and about 13.8 hours at idle. It also supports USB PD fast charging and power delivery through the USB4 ports, so with a compatible power bank or adapter you can top up on the go.
Priced from 369,800 Yen, with an Office Model Available
There are two configurations. The model without Office, the UX3607OA-GL245BE, is 369,800 yen, while the Office-equipped model, the UX3607OA-GL245BES, is 399,800 yen. Both went on sale on July 3. The Office model comes with Microsoft 365 Personal (24-month edition) plus an Office Home & Business 2024 option.
