The screen burn-in issue that users have been reporting on the iPhone 15 series, where mark-like traces remained on the display, has been resolved by updating to iOS 17.1.

While OLED displays have a characteristic where displaying the same image for extended periods can leave traces on the screen, in this case, it was due to a software bug. Phew, what a relief!

I was able to confirm the screen burn-in on my own iPhone 15 Pro Max as well.

Actually, I only checked my iPhone after learning that this burn-in phenomenon would be resolved through software, so I just thought "Oh, it really is happening." But if I had noticed it without knowing anything, I think I would have been disappointed, thinking I'd messed up my phone.

After immediately applying the update that came down...

Just like that! It completely disappeared.
By the way, having bought iPhones every year, I've noticed that there seems to be hit-or-miss quality with displays, and if you get a miss, there's subtle color unevenness.
My iPhone appears to be a miss.
I'm a bit disappointed. See you in next year's battle for the new model!
